Call it immersion therapy, delving into a hurtful event to prevent it from happening again. Clemson coach Tommy Bowden took the plunge Monday, calling colleague Nick Saban after his Alabama team knocked the Tigers out of the Top 25 with a 34-10 loss Saturday. Saban wasn't the only high-profile coach Bowden called on this week. He said he also spoke with his father, Florida State coach Bobby Bowden; Georgia coach Mark Richt and Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer about how the Tigers would recover from the beatdown at the Georgia Dome.

He'll have to wait his turn after the snake, the scorpion, and the weasel.

Hello? Nick? Yeah, this is Tommy Bowden. You know, the guys who's **** you just kicked. Yeah, say, what did I do wrong, exactly? Oh. Everything, huh? And what could I do to make it better? Oh, block? Block. OK. Got it. Thanks.

He also called his father, who had fallen, and can't get up.

He also called Charlie Weis. Whatever Charlies was going to say, Tommy was going to do the opposite.

He called Frank Solich, who was busy driving home drunk and on the wrong side of the street.

I could go on.

Please go on asdfgaeb. It's funny.

It's like that line in Tin Cup...."You can't ask advice about the woman you are trying to hose, FROM the woman you are trying to hose".
What is this guy thinking?

September 3, 2008  09:25 AM ET

What are the guys on Bowden's team gonna think of this?

September 3, 2008  09:33 AM ET

Well the Clemson fans still think Tommy is the milkman's son. I am glad he called somebody for advise, apparently his coaching for dummies book still isn't working.

September 3, 2008  09:33 AM ET

I can't believe a guy from Nebraska dosent like Solich...

September 3, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Poor guy. He may not make it out of the season. This is a tad embarassing.

September 3, 2008  10:25 AM ET

Every Clemson fan that I know says "Tommys such a nice guy, hes a christian man" when I bring up the fact that they need to replace him. That is a great point and much needed in life but when are they going to realize that he is waisting talent being the coach there and get a new coach.

September 3, 2008  10:28 AM ET

It's hard to do anything when your players get beat in the trenches. Maybe throw more screens against the Saban blitzes?

You've been meeting some weird Clemson fans then. All of them I know have been calling for Bowden's head for atleast 5 or 6 years.

Saban said that Clemson had more skill and talent at every position on the field than Bama, but his team beat Clemson's team. And that all falls ont he coach. Sure Tommy can recruit, but I wouldn't trust him to coach a JV High School team.

He is nice man, but unless he wins the ACC this year look for him to be on his way out.

Classic.

I believe they're confused, but when they call the players from the opposing team on what to do they'll be fine. ;-)

September 3, 2008  04:13 PM ET

I think Saban said come to Alabama and i will make you my asst recruiter. Saban also reportedly said "Tommy, I am your real father"

September 3, 2008  06:57 PM ET

why didn't he call his dad or one of his other brothers. Clemson fans should feel burn about now.

September 3, 2008  07:24 PM ET

I think he wanted to borrow some freshman from Saban's number one recruiting class who didn't get to play the other night.

September 3, 2008  10:24 PM ET

Hello bloggers NEWS UPDATE: Nick Saban is heading to Clemson for the coaching job.

September 3, 2008  10:36 PM ET

I commend him. He swallowed his pride called up Saban, his father, Richt and others. It looks kind of silly now but if he goes 11-1 it will become the best group of phone calls he has made in 10 years.
