Word is that incoming Robbinsdale Cooper basketball senior Rodney Williams has reduced his college considerations to Minnesota and Santa Clara and after summer school classes should be eligible for his freshman season. Dropping off his list are Connecticut, Kansas and Memphis.

Dropping UConn, Kansas and Memphis = realization that you're not THAT good.

September 3, 2008  08:53 AM ET

Santa Clara? Are the coeds faine there or something?

September 3, 2008  09:05 AM ET

A little confused here. You drop UCONN and Kansas for Minnesota and Santa Clara?

HUH?

September 3, 2008  09:33 AM ET

I've never heard of this guy and I follow KU recruiting pretty closely. He must have found out that he isnt that good.

September 3, 2008  09:35 AM ET

Here's a news flash for FN... it is September, NO ONE GIVES A CRAP ABOUT BASKETBALL UNTIL MID-JANUARY!!!

September 3, 2008  09:57 AM ET

He drops UConn, Kansas and Memphis for Minnesota and Santa Clara?

Yeah, I'm thinking he knew he'd be a bench player at the big time schools

September 3, 2008  09:59 AM ET

HE'S A HOME TOWN KID THAT WANTS TO PLAY FOR TUBBY AND THE GOPHERS....HE CAN PLAY AT KANSAS AND UCONN. THEY WOULDNT BE ON THE LIST IF HE COULDNT.

September 3, 2008  10:59 AM ET

easy with the caps business.......

if he's a hometown kid- where does santa clara fit into the mix?

I don't follow HS kids- so I have no idea of his talent......
but if he's really a prospect- the only reason he'd go to a 'lesser' school is if he is getting something or is promised something under the table

Minnesota isn't a lesser school anymore now that we have Tubby

September 3, 2008  11:42 AM ET

hey, ..the kid wants to actually see some playing time...I would rather start for santa clara than be the 11th man for kansas...thats an easy call...

September 3, 2008  11:49 AM ET

Sorry, I would rather avg. 13 pts a game at UCONN,Kansas or Memphis than 25 PPG at Santa Clara.

September 3, 2008  12:08 PM ET

Easy mngator. What has Tubby ever done? He won the national title with Pitino's recruits. Minnysoda is still a below average program. That wont be changing anytime soon.

If the kid wants a future in basketball, you go to UCONN, KU, Memphis, etc and average 12 or 13 ppg. Who cares if you play at Santa Clara and average 23? No one.

September 3, 2008  01:42 PM ET

Whoa...I wouldn't say that Minnesota is a below average program. Did you see any games that they played last year? Probably not. While they are no where close to great and still a bit away from good, they are an average program. 20-14 and 6th in the Big 11=average. Also, they had a top 25 recruiting class and have a 5-star committed to the program for 2009. (Rodney is a 4-star btw).

September 3, 2008  02:21 PM ET

jayhawkfan, i didnt realize winning a national title is nothing... and ya so far Minnesota hasnt done much, but the difference he made in just 1 year with a bunch of no bodies was amazing... and lets take basketball out of it, would you rather go to middle of no where kannsas or to warm nice California

He is not a scrub he's a top 35 player according to Rivals.com and their Rivals 150 for 2009. This would be a big sign for the gophers, he would look great next to top 20 player Royce White!

September 3, 2008  06:49 PM ET

He has great hops and can really jump but at 6 5 would have to be able to swing and hit the side shot and he is sketchy on that. He does not run very well nor is a particularly good defender. At least when I saw him play.
He could make the system at KU, UCONN, and Memphis and contribute but not until his Junior year and he would have to fight to make PT. If he plays for Tubbs he will get PT as a freshman which might help him more in the long run grow as a player. That is if Tubbs doesn't get caught for something else and bolts yet again. I think it was a smart move for him. KU and Memphis would not have been a good fit talent wise for him.

September 4, 2008  12:22 AM ET

Tubby is coming. Go Tubby

September 4, 2008  04:41 PM ET

He wants to play with former HS and AAU teammates: Royce White @ UMinn or with SG Ray Cowles @ Santa CLara. Probably leaning towards Minnesota -

Has stated in the past that he and White would play on same team. This kid is good enough to play anywhere, even KU.
