What's wrong with Zambrano's arm?

The Cubs' problems have gone from bad to worse as Carlos Zambrano's arm has gone from "tired" to iffy. Zambrano left Tuesday night's 9-7, 11-inning loss to Houston after five innings and 86 pitches and "told pitching coach [Larry Rothschild] he wasn't feeling good," according to manager Lou Piniella. Wasn't feeling good, as in...? "It has to be in his arm," Piniella said. "I'll let you know [more] tomorrow." Zambrano will visit Cubs orthopedist Stephen Gryzlo on Wednesday, but it's obvious he will be shut down for several days, which would put his effectiveness for the playoffs in doubt.

It seems to be more than the dog days of August. Good thing the Cubs have depth on their staff for September but need him for the playoffs.

His arm is worn and probally has a tear in it.. better fix the issue or it will be more than the DL.

Zam may be ze beginning of ze end.

Didn't he just get paid at the beginning of this season? I'm just sayin'...

To quote John Smoltz "everybody wishes they felt better this time of the year. Nobody is 100%." Suck it up Zambrano. Five or six innings from you, if that's all you can do, is better than nothing.....otherwise, the Cubs will be headed towards the double century mark....

Maybe he punched one too many water coolers this year......

He might need pointers from Paul O'Neil, Paulie never injured himself beating up on coolers.

There 's more to it than that, though. He wasn't pitching well all of last month. He was too inconsistent, and it did become worrisome after awhile.

While this may hurt, (I hope it's just something minor, but you never know with these things,) I would much rather it happen now than late in the month, when it would REALLY hurt bad.

I am telling you he has a tear.. wait and see.

Another worn out pitcher that is in a need to win team but needs to make sure arm is taken care of or when the real games come.. playoffs.. he will be useless. I klnow you need to get there first but if your pitcher is useless.. it really kills your chances and affects your future if their arms are over pitched and messed up.

CUBS see October coming and IMPLODE AGAIN!!!!! 101 YEARS, 102 YEARS 103 YEARS and the beat goes on!

Oh the dreaded bad Karma rears it's filthy head. Cubby fans need to put on their Zambrano jerseys and start walking old ladys across the street. God knows Zambrano won't. His arm is too bad to do that too.

September 3, 2008  12:18 PM ET

It's not that Zambrano has any arm problems. The Cubs just like the way his name looks on the disabled list. You know, aesthetically. So that's probably where he will end up even though his arm is just tired. They are going to put him on the Mark Prior arm conditioning program and encourage Carlos to punch softer targets than water coolers and catchers, maybe Harden's soft arm or Wood's blisters..

Only problem with his arm is ------ he should be pitching in the Bronx
