Gophers to extend AD's contract
It hasn't been announced, but Joel Maturi has accepted a two-year contract extension that will keep him as the Gophers' athletics director through 2012. Maturi, 63, who has been athletics director at Minnesota since 2002, was a potential candidate for the same job at his alma mater, Notre Dame, last June. But he told a search committee his intent was to remain at Minnesota. Credit Minnesota President Bob Bruininks with keeping Maturi here.

Must have been that thrilling win over Northern Illinois on Saturday that clinched the deal.....

I think it is bringing Tubby Smith, Brewster and nice new uniforms. Definetly not that win over a MAC team. If we beat another MAC juggernot in BGreen he might get another extension.

The Tubby Smith hire was good, but don't know how much Maturi had to do with it (Tubby needed a soft place to land). But, he decimated the football porgram by his firing of Glen Mason (64-57) and hiring Brewster (1-11). I know, blame it on Mason's recruiting class...that always works. How do you explain that Mason had a winning record and the guy before him, Jim Wacker was 16-39. Yea, give Maturi a 10 year deal like Weiss...misery loves company.

to River 1075:
People were sick of going to website Bowlgames and losing games in the fourth quarter. It was only partially recruiting, but mostly his whole attitude. We would never have gotten any better because Mason didn't think we were capable. Who wants a coach like that?
