NASCAR restricts Toyota trucks

Just as NASCAR did with the Nationwide Series in July, the sanctioning body has changed the engine rule in the Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR announced the rule change Wednesday. Engines with cylinder bore spacing of less than 4.47 inches must use a spacer with four 1.125-inch diameter holes, which restricts engine air flow. All other engines must use a spacer with four 1.1-inch diameter holes. The change likely will impact the horsepower of the Toyotas ??? on the Nationwide side it impacted the Toyotas by 15-20 horsepower.

It is about time that Toyota does not get an advantage in the engine horsepower.. As long as it is equal, it is fair.. And it has not been fair till lately!!!!

The season is almost freaking over.......I guess they met their promised quota of wins and money.

September 4, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Wow. What's the point in actually going engineering research in NASCAR? If you aren't good enough, they'll penalize the competition to make you look better. Toyota had a better engine design. They shouldn't have the rug pulled out from under them mid-season. If you want to change it, then fine but do it in the off-season.

September 4, 2008  08:57 AM ET

The ONLY reason Toyota had a better engine is because NASCAR did not restrict their horsepower like they did Chevy, Ford, and Dodge.. NASCAR gave them an advantage, Lord only knows why but Toyota's money must have done a lot of talking!!!! Just like in Sprint Cup!!

How true; they will still out engineer the Big Three.

How is this Equal? Toyota is being punished for getting it right and investing in the sport...Toyota should protet by pulling out of all three series, with GM very soon to follow anyway.

* protest...sorry, lol

I can see tweeking the cars, they are still relatively new. But the trucks have been running several years now.

AF The way I have heard is that NASCAR would not LET the other 3 makes have more horse power ( it was not that they weren't bright enough to make their engines with more HP) They let Toyota have the advantage so they would do well, it is NOT that the other 3 were out smarted in the engine design!!!

September 4, 2008  09:51 AM ET

Giving Toyota an advantage in the 1st place was Nascar's 1st mistake, at least in this instance.

September 4, 2008  09:53 AM ET

Whatever NASCAR did or didn't do....it just looks ugly now to punish one manufacturer over another, agree?

September 4, 2008  09:54 AM ET

FLOAT Am I wrong with what I think (as written above by me) That is just what I got out of reading and listening to people!!

September 4, 2008  09:58 AM ET

Ohio#88, I think you are spot on, Nascar gave too much too soon without thinking about the outcome. I don't think Nascar thought Toyota was that smart!

September 4, 2008  09:59 AM ET

I believe nascar thought that Toyota was gonna struggle, and loosened the chain a bit too much!

Morning FLOAT; You know what think thought? He thought he farted but he sh// his pants. LOL

JK, Let me drink my coffee, please! LOL
Good Morning!

September 4, 2008  10:05 AM ET

That is what I thought FLOAT- NASCAR wanted to make Toyota competitive and ended up giving them too much of an advantage.. Hopefully next year, when HP is the same for every make , as it should be, the other makes will do better!!!

Money talks , bullship walks. France is filling his coffers before the Nascar nation rises up and walks him out of the job. Just like any CEO in any large corp. Couldn't agree with you more OHIO and that's saying a lot coming from a Michigan Wolverine fan.
