Worker beats LeBron at H-O-R-S-E

LeBron James could be excused for his poor shooting from behind the arc, and for being blown out in a game of H-O-R-S-E with a warehouse worker in a beach exhibition. James was still floating in the clouds from his Olympic experience. James was on an outdoor court at Venice Beach to take on David Kalb in a shooting game, mostly of trick shots, although James' outside shooting touch was way off. At one point, he grinned and said, "That wind." Kalb won the matchup with James in an online contest, "LeBron's Trick Shot Challenge sponsored by Cub Cadet." Kalb's bag of trick shots including one where he bounced the ball very high in the lane, raced around the goal post, caught the ball as it came down, and tossed it in the basket. James missed his try, and after losing the first game, declared best two-of-three. Each made, among other shots, left-handed free throws, but Kalb went on to win the second game as well. After he missed his final shot, James tossed the ball away in mock anger. Asked if the matchup against Kalb was tougher than winning a gold medal, James said it was, because he was by himself and didn't have his Olympic teammates.

Congratulations to TEAM USA for regaining the OLYMPIC GOLD.....

OK, this is a really out of place in "Truth and Rumors"...

The previous article about those former Jayhawks do belong.

Man, this is funny. This is no big deal but it will probably a big deal to a lot of fans. Lebron was just messing around but he probably should have not taken that chance. Kalb must be a pro in HORSE games but even then Lebron should have had something up his sleeve to blow this guy away.

Lebron is right on target when he said that he didn't have his teammates w/ him. He is a team player not an individual. Still, Lebron needs to work on his outside shooting. That is still one of his weakness. Maybe free throw shooting also. He needs consistency.

September 4, 2008  07:58 AM ET

By the way... LeBron's skillset is not suited for H-O-R-S-E. Though he's strong as the beast.

Coz he can't shoot!!!
Kobe and Dwyane Wade would certainly faired much better.

September 4, 2008  08:16 AM ET

I repeat... who cares..I do disagree. He can shoot and is a beast inside. He is not a set shooter and certainly cannot shoot everywhere. He does have his sweet shots and in live action would have killed this guy. Many shoot better when facing and moving in a real game. Give him short jump shots and he is money. He is built for a 4 or 5 in shooting with the ball handling of a 2.

Since I really don't care about this story... anyone see the Oklahoma City Thunder is official now? As if that wasn't bad enough... anyone see that awful logo? I bet the jerseys are gonna make the bright red "SIXERS" or the randomly-slapped-together "CAVS" jerseys from the 90s look like crown-jewels of the NBA at this pace... you guys remember those fugly things?

Good to see him out having fun with regular people. We all know that if they played 1-on-1, the other guy might not make it out alive :)

First off, maybe this story doesn't need to be on Truth and Rumors but I like it. It is better than half of the non stories that have some kind of illogical statement or opinion to get people fired up over nothing.
For those talking about LeBron's skills. Please..... Even as a die hard Mavs fans I know LeBron is a beast. Yes, maybe Kobe and DWade have more finesse than LeBron but they don't have the same brute force. If I had to rank them it would be too close to call a clear winner. LeBron still has more growing to do. If I had to claim one player for the next 10 years I then he would be my pick. If I had to claim a player for 1 year then DWade would be my pick. No offense to Kobe at all is intended although I'm sure some will take offense. It's just that DWade looked unbelievable for USA. I haven't seen that DWade since he beat the Mavs in the championship and he did this in USA ball which means he didn't have the refs helping him by calling fouls for him everytime he entered the paint like against the Mavs. If DWade had a chance on a better team then maybe he could win an MVP next year but that won't happen.
