Cousin's book rips Marbury

Stephon Marbury has carried the stigma of being a selfish player for the majority of his 12-year NBA career. Now, his older cousin is saying Marbury is even more self-centered off the court and is dishing details on the Knicks point guard in his autobiography, "The Beautiful Struggle," the Daily News has learned. The book, due out in late September from Xlibris Publishing, has former NBA pro and current overseas player Jamel Thomas alleging that Marbury ruined a potential deal for him with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In it, Thomas includes a conversation that he allegedly had with Kevin Garnett, in which Garnett tells him how Marbury's presence on the team spoiled his cousin's chances of signing with Minnesota.

This is in the MLB section, why?

September 5, 2008  07:03 AM ET

Well, technically, Jamel isn't his cousin.... I forgot about him, wheres does he play Greece?

September 5, 2008  07:16 AM ET

At least we know the title of the book doesn't refer to Steph. There's nothing beautiful at all about his struggles...in fact it borders blasphemy to put 'beautiful' and 'Marbury' in the same sentence.

What!?..Marbury selfish?...you don't say...

September 5, 2008  07:41 AM ET

Why is this news... That's just marbury! He has already ruined the careers of great NBA coaches, players and set caused three franchises to retrogress... But JAMEL..forgive him and move on because he is family...writing a book on family matters is selling your soul...you should be bigger than that,,,,

Starbury is selfish? In related news, the sun is hot and water is wet.

SHOCKING REVELATION

- that being said-
if a cousin is writing a book about Steph....
you can be sure the cousin is probably a turd as well,
asking for $, etc....so I wouldn't put much creedance in it

September 5, 2008  08:45 AM ET

You call this news? Starbury has been discredited enough that this book will not mean anything.

September 5, 2008  08:52 AM ET

This is no surprise. Stuff like this has been making the rounds here in Brooklyn since Steph played for Lincoln.

Props to Jamel for making a little bit of cash here, though. I am far from surprised but I guess he will "shock" someone.

This dude was on that telfair ring of fire... he was mad good

September 5, 2008  09:55 AM ET

Jamel was a good player for Providence and should have been drafted. It's a shame he wasn't.

He also seemed to have a solid head on his shoulders which is something that the family Marbury doesn't have.

Said this before but I met Sebastian back when he was in high school and he seemed like a solid guy. He should have listened more to Jamel instead of Dan. Dan kind of puffed his head up a little too much.

He's not making any sense. If he was good enough, he would have had stability on a team because in all pro sports the object is to win. He sounds like a jealous whiner. Marbury may be an **** but that still doesn't change the fact that you have to be your own man.

September 5, 2008  10:08 AM ET

Yeah jamel is a great player, could easily be a solid 6th man if not starter

September 5, 2008  10:27 AM ET

marbury has a cousin??

September 5, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Gee, I've never heard anyone rip on Stephon Marbury before.......

September 5, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Wait again....Why dont we focus on his game and forget about this nonsense

I don't think very many people are surprised to hear that Marbury is selfish. Stephon could very well have kinked a deal in Minnesota, but what kept Jamel from catching on somewhere else? No matter--cuz should be careful. Next year he and Stephon could be teammates in Greece.
