Irish alter Clausen's preparation

Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen packed on muscle during the offseason, and the game slowed down once he was able to digest the playbook and learn the nuances of Charlie Weis' system. He isn't alone. He will lead an offense composed largely of youngsters ready to cash in on their potential after struggling mightily last season. Weis has said Clausen is not only more confident in the system, but also better able to read defenses, make pre-snap reads, take control of the huddle and lead the team instead of just playing his position. The two sat down with quarterback coach Ron Powlus earlier this week because Weis wanted to make sure Clausen understood the difference between how he prepared for games last season and how he will be expected to prepare this season.

SDSU to some is a push over, but it is a big test for ND...they can be pass happy and can prove to be formidable...this is not just a tune up game for Michigan..the Irish has to bring it..

Did he pack on some Brady Quinn-type muscle cause that dude is ripped? Clausen needed to put on something...the dude looked waifish last season and should've been doing some serious lifting before he got to ND.

Wa2Sea, come on, SDSU is a "big test"? LMAO!

Remember you heard it from me first, rhymeister...

SDSU lost some players alonge the D line. So look for ND to pound it all day on the ground.

As for SDSU being pass happy, I believe ND's front 7 will force them to be pass happy. & look for David Bruton, Kyle LcCarthy, Terrail Lambert, Harrison Smith, Raeshon McNeil & Gary Gray to disrupt those passes

Irish win 42-14

GO IRISH!

Opps, that's Kyle McCarthy.

September 5, 2008  08:47 AM ET

No Charlie Weis-is-fat jokes yet? You guys are disappointing me.

September 5, 2008  08:58 AM ET

San Diego State lost to Cal. Poly so I don't expect the Irish to be challenged. Just jump out to an early lead, get some back-ups some playing time and prepare for Michigan.

SDSU will be a confidence builder for ND. ND, 7-5, '08.

I, for one, hope Pickle Boy does better this year. He's still has to win a heisman.

September 5, 2008  10:25 AM ET

How come no Charlie Weis picture today?

September 5, 2008  11:27 AM ET

Ron "I sucked big time" Powlus is ND's qb coach. Good luck with that.

Who the hell cares.

September 5, 2008  11:37 AM ET

OK, I'll be the first.

Charlie is so fat, the entire defense can use him as the tackling sled.

Charlie is so fat, NASA has used him to practice moon landings.

Charlie is so fat, his blood type is Crisco.

Charlie is so fat, the team runs laps around him as punishment

Who the hell cares.

Just remember here in a few months, the phrase "Cash in" was uttered here first....

This should be fun to watch and Notre Dame would run 60-65% on this game and pass 35-40%. However, this should be a good game to watch and observe how well the defense respond to the spread offense. Goo Notre Dame!!!

GO IRISH! Let's get season 2008 on the way with a withewash of those Aztecs.
I want to see a RB going over 200 yards (Hughes) and I want to see Clausen picking them apart and hitting a long one!!
