Burress, Giants get deal done

Plaxico Burress said he wanted to get a deal done with the Giants before the start of the season. He alternated between expressing optimism and skepticism about the two sides coming together. It did, with little time to spare. Hours before kickoff of last night's season-opener against the Redskins, Burress signed a new five-year, $35 million contract that will pay him $11 million this season and keep him with the Giants through the 2012 season. Burress refused to practice during the June mini-camp, not because of the lingering problems with his right ankle but because of a "business decision." Basically, he went public with his contract demands and deprived the Giants of his services.

hope it includes an incentive clause to shave his chin.

Amazing what a couple of dollars can do for one's confidence...

Three quarters before the fans starting booing the Giants. Three quarters. So much for your world champions.

What I saw was the real Eli coming back. If the Redskin secondary could actually catch a ball now and then, he would have had 4 interceptions. Clear interceptions. Get in his face and he shows his real colors. That was with the Skins. Wait until a real defense gets a hold of him. Thank goodness they have Jacobs. Gonna be a lot of running.

Makes him look like KG.
Hey Hooah......I like ya, but quit your bitter whining this morning already.

I think the Giants looked decent last night. They got in the red zone and didn't take advantage of a couple opportunities. But other than that, they moved the ball pretty much at will. The Redskins "offense" looked horrible. Jason Campbell looked like he had no idea which read to go to. It was just the first game, but the Redskins offense needs to attack more and stop running 5 and 6 yard curl routes every play.

What part of that is whining Jackman? Just pointing out the obvious.

Agree jj, Redskins looked lost out there. Got to feel for Campbell what with 6 or 7 offensive coordinators in the past few years. No consistency there. When he was on he looked decent. How about that Portis though? Tough son-of-a-gun. You see that hit he put on Kiwanika? Priceless.

That was beautiful. I thought of Shawn Merriman getting lit up last year by MJD as soon as I saw that. Also, as much as I hate Jacobs, you got to tackle that man low or gang tackle. Because he just ran through Landry like he was a tackling dummy.

September 5, 2008  08:10 AM ET

Jacobs is a monster. Hope my boys can contain him. Reminds me of Riggins.

September 5, 2008  08:20 AM ET

I could see that comparison. I'm not hating on the Redskins defense, but it seemed liked he was playing in the backyard with his kids out there last night.

September 5, 2008  08:21 AM ET

Redskins played terrible, and it will be a long season I hate to say.
Giants obviously won't repeat as they looked just as bad and
are lucky they played the skins.

September 5, 2008  08:23 AM ET

Plaxico stinks

September 5, 2008  08:26 AM ET

Congrats on the Giants win. Underwhelmed by the 16 points scored.

September 5, 2008  08:30 AM ET

I will admit...NYG looked bogged down in the second half.

A win is still a win.

Most definitely. The scoreboard is the only stat that matters.

Sounds vaguely like Patriot rants before last year's SB. Eli did have some errant passes for sure. Games plans change though based on what team/defense you are playing against. Chalk up the win and move on. It is great to finally get some live action. Now we can talk trash about something meaningful.

Oh goody!! A new Sophia pic.

September 5, 2008  08:47 AM ET

urm, not sure who was expecting a final score in the range of 52 to 42, but it wasn't the colts vs the bengals. last nights game was 56 combined rushes for around 275 yards combined. solid game. just wasn't a shoot out. was never going to be a shoot out and wasn't meant to be.

Man Cowboy Dave.......I have to do hours of research to dig these up.
