Why Filho won't fight Silva

WEC Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho was recently interviewed by TATAME.com and when asked about the possible merger between the WEC and UFC Middleweight talent as well as the possibility of match up with UFC Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva, the undefeated Filho was quick to shoot down and thought of the fight: And if their decision is to merge you to UFC, will you face Anderson Silva? Definitely no. We're close friends and I believe there's space for everybody there, it's definitely out of my plans. Not surprising. The two have been good friends for a long time and have helped each other train. Maybe money doesn't talk for everyone.

Heh heh, that foto is of Antonio Silva not Anderson!

HA! Great job fannation, you know your MMA!

September 5, 2008  09:39 AM ET

Worst of all it even says it's Antonio Silva...

September 5, 2008  10:50 AM ET

WOW! This picture isn't even close. Just wow.

apparently, having the wrong pic on FN is more important that that actual topic this story was written on....FN mods: if you're watching....this is pretty good evidence that 2 people saying they WON'T fight isn't newsworthy...just because it CAN be posted doesn't mean it SHOULD be posted....

but Loki -- if FN didn't post stupid stuff then what would we have to laugh at?

September 5, 2008  02:17 PM ET

HEY FN just because they both have the same name silva and are darker skinned doesnt mean you can swap pic and think no one will notice.

anywhoo That would be one h,e,l,l of a fight Anderson v Filho

I think Anderson would barely take it

Paulo Filho is probably the best equipped middleweight in the world to beat Anderson Silva right now. Note: I'm not saying he would, though.

Problem is that the best middleweights in the world, not named Anderson Silva, Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson, are not in the UFC.

I am talking about guys such as Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and Melvin Manhoef (both DREAM fighters). I would love to see those two against Anderson Silva.

unfortunately, my Redskins....

September 5, 2008  02:50 PM ET

Loki, sorry about your luck. Looks like it might be a long season for the Redskins. Jason Cambell did not look like a franchise QB.

September 5, 2008  03:07 PM ET

still respect that fact that he doesn't want to fight his friend.

September 5, 2008  06:04 PM ET

YAY!! FN got the picture right finally.

September 5, 2008  06:27 PM ET

There you go fannation!

who cares, when PENN takes GSP title, hell move up and take SILVAS title. After that PENN will move up and take FORREST G's title, then finish his career off at 210lbs and take the BELT from COTOURE at the end of next year. Hell retire from MMA and tag team up with REY MYSTERIO on WWE and become world tag champions!!!!!!!!!!!!

September 6, 2008  05:47 PM ET

"Jason Cambell did not look like a franchise QB."

True, but it's hard to look like a franchise qb when most of the team plays like they don't give a ++++ about winning. The 'skins first priority in next year's draft should be to trade their owner for a stick of chewing and a bowl of Corn Flakes.

Filho will lose the belt to Sonnen next week. He almost lost it last time he faced Sonnen and the controversial "tap" that gave filho the win after being dominated by Sonnen. All I am saying is that Filho is nowhere near the same level as his convinient "friend" and maybe he should take some lessons from Silva.

September 6, 2008  11:24 PM ET

Wow, this guy's **** must really hurt.

September 7, 2008  09:08 AM ET

ebelingb: the tap may have been controversial, but Sonnen was clearly submitted. There's a fine line between tapping and just being stupid :)

Filho was a beast in Pride FC. Pride's Filho could take and beat Anderson Silva.

The current Filho is a different one, less explosive, which leads me to believe that he used steroids in Japan.
