Player's surgery surprises Bills

Just days before the opener, the Buffalo Bills have lost a key member of their defense for the season. Outside linebacker Angelo Crowell was placed on the injured reserve list Thursday evening, just three hours after head coach Dick Jauron announced that Crowell had elected to have arthroscopic surgery on a troublesome left knee. Such a procedure usually requires only one to four weeks of recovery time. However, there was talk within the team after practice that Crowell's injury was could be season-ending. Crowell dealt with knee problems throughout training camp, missing several days of practice because of persistent swelling.

First again. Did anyone else come to work today?

Go ahead and rock that mock turtleneck Dick Jauron!

I'm sure plenty of people came to work, but this isn't about Chad Johnson, the Patriots, or the Cowboys, so no need to comment. As for Crowell going on IR, that stinks, why'd put him on IR if he might come back in 4 weeks, isn't that what the PUP list is for?

I don't think they want to play him. I read they are trying to work out an injury settlement or might just release him. And I thought you can't get put on the PUP list unless you were there during training camp? I could be wrong.

Not a good development. Crowell has been playing great ball over the last couple of years, injured or not. There must be more to the story.

Good luck to Ellison. Go Bills!

I'm not worried, Ellison played a ton last year and he is a more than capable backup.
