Report: Chalmers, Arthur anger Stern

NBA commissioner David Stern is not taking the alleged behavior of rookies Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur lightly, according to published reports on Thursday. Stern was so angered by the players' alleged involvement with marijuana and women at the league's rookie transition program that he made a call to remove them from their rooms at the Doral Arrowwood Resort in Rye Brook, New York, according to an article posted on ESPN.com. Two key members of Kansas' 2008 National Championship team, Chalmers and Arthur were dismissed from the four-day seminar in which coaches, referees and former players speak about adapting to the league after women and evidence of marijuana use was found in their hotel room. According to the report, Chalmers and Arthur were caught in Arthur's room at the resort when a smoke alarm went off Wednesday at about 2 a.m. After the players refused to allow hotel management into their room, security used its own key to gain access and found Chalmers, Arthur and at least two women - a violation of the program's no-visitors rule. The report also states that there was a strong stench of marijuana in the room and one person was in the bathroom with the door locked, repeatedly flushing the toilet. The police were then called to the room, which they searched, but did not find any marijuana or drug paraphernalia. Chalmers and Arthur were allowed to stay the night, but Stern immediately had the players removed when hearing of the incident shortly before giving a tipoff address to the remaining 67 members of the seminar on Wednesday.

Don't these rookies know what an Escalade is for?

September 5, 2008  08:37 AM ET

Duh! Of course the NBA mafia leader would be mad. He has been trying hard to clean his image and hide as many negative things about the NBA as much as possible. Stern is in dire needs to make the NBA be more trustworthy again. All these gamblings and drugs are killing him.

And for those 2 Jayhawks, they just made themselves look dumb and gave their university a negative outlook. The championship looks dirty now.

"The championship looks dirty now."

why?
- cause a couple of kids were smoking?
- it's not like they were found injecting themselves with HGH

What the hell? Even HS students know the prep steps needed to smoke in hotel rooms. Damp towel at bottom of door, air freshener, and last but def not least, remove the smoke alarm! It's hilarious that the smoke alarm did them in. LMAO!

September 5, 2008  08:56 AM ET

D.SLIQ is right. There are some simple rules to hiding smoke in the hotel room.

Anyway, no surprise that Stern is mad. Stern gets mad for everything.

What's a little smoke and women. Boy's will be boy's. And Weed is such a performance enhancer. Excuse me while I take a nap.

September 5, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Maybe Stern needs to smoke one to calm himself down a bit.

September 5, 2008  09:24 AM ET

"Hey Stern, at least you don't have Chris Henry or Pacman in your league."

There's only one thing you can say to these 2 kids...

Dummies.

Straight ****. Great way to start your career...pissin' off the commissioner.

D. SLIQ

sounds like the script to me..I would add some airfreshener and open a window...and smoke in the bathroom..where there is a vent and a fan...how dumb can you be?

September 5, 2008  10:39 AM ET

the smoke alarm is hilarious

September 5, 2008  10:47 AM ET

Would have been nice if the item had mentioned which NBA teams the two are on now.

September 5, 2008  11:21 AM ET

They should have went with the ole college trick of taking a papertowel tube, putting wet paper towels in it and blowing the smoke through that out the window...or somewhere other than at the smoke alarm.

What dumbasses. They deserve everything they get for being so stupid.

September 5, 2008  11:34 AM ET

Such a nonstory IMHO...Can you imagine the horror, NBA players smokin weed???...Naah, none of them do

September 5, 2008  11:35 AM ET

This was suppose to be business, which I assume to be basketball in this case. At 2:30 in the morning they should have been in bed. All the comments seem to be about how they should have done it. How about taking care of the business at hand and waiting until later to get high? Or is this such a foreign concept?

September 5, 2008  11:44 AM ET

No weed no case.

September 5, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Can you imagine the roster if they tested every NBA player for weed and suspended those who were positive? We might be looking at 3on3 make it take it for a while..
