Tressel: Wells back for USC game

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said that starting running back Beanie Wills will not play against Ohio University while recovering from an injury at the base of his right big toe and senior Mo Wells will start in his place. Tressel said again that Wells should be ready for USC next week and he's not worried that Wells could miss that game.

Wells is good but over-rated because the rest of the O is good. I'm sure OSU has someone else just as capable if Wells can't play.

If USC takes OSU to the wood shed, I think on behalf of the Big Ten...OSU should be voted out of it.

September 5, 2008  07:10 AM ET

I think I'll let the NFL decide just how "over-rated" Wells is or isn't.

September 5, 2008  07:23 AM ET

Good news! Wells is not overrated and I say this as someone who is unbiased (my school is in the Big XII), he's a big-time back. It doesn't matter if he has success in the NFL or not, fact of the matter is he is a very successful college RB.

Wells is not overrated. He is a bonafide stud.

Oh and Penn State has given the Big 10 something to be proud of? The only time Penn State has been in the news is in the police blotter. OSU travels to USC to play the #1 team in the nation. Penn State stays hame and plays the Beavers who already lost to Stanford. Penn State couldn't hold OSU's jock.

September 5, 2008  08:17 AM ET

BillWrigley - Penn State is the last Big 10 school to win a BCS game and also has a good team this year. As for the player problems - they've all been booted or suspended pending further details.

Take it from a Bills fan - going to the NC game means nothing if you get slaughtered.

September 5, 2008  08:18 AM ET

^Also - Oregon State isn't a bad team. They started out the year ranked and they gave Stanford the win last week. Oregon State beat themselves.
Also - Stanford beat USC last year.

Wells isn't over rated, but he better play if they expect to win. He makes them better, I don't care what anyone else says. You cannot substitue his 230lb frame, against that USC defense, perhaps the best in the country.

September 5, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Makes sense to sit him against Ohio. I want to see both teams at full strength so there will be no complaints of injuries after that game.

September 5, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Put in Pryor to replace Wells.

September 5, 2008  09:19 AM ET

I love the Penn St was technically the last team to win a BCS game arguement, by what 48 hours?

Then again if I had to sit through Morelli at QB, I might be bitter about the past two seasons as well...

September 5, 2008  09:21 AM ET

and for the record anyone that puts up numbers like Wells is not overrated.

September 5, 2008  09:25 AM ET

Basic Blue,
I was responding to the ridiculous statement of NWPA. Could you imagine how low the Big 10 would sink if OSU left? Here's my take on your spin.

PSU last won a BCS game the same year as OSU so can't take sole credit on that.

Yes PSU is good but they aren't quite OSU material are they?

I'm not talking about handing out the punishment, I'm talking about getting into trouble in the 1st place, How can you not admit that PSU has had the most off the field problems in the last several years?

I disagree that any university or it's fan base would rather win in the Alamo Bowl game than lose or get slaughtered as you call it, in the Championship Game. You strive to reach the big game and you hope to play your best.

No Oregon State is not a bad team but there isn't any comparison to playing the #1 Trogans in their own back yard.

September 5, 2008  09:25 AM ET

Like we had any doubt that he was better and ready to suit up against USC. go Bucks.

September 5, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Couldn't have said it better myself BillW

September 5, 2008  09:28 AM ET

Beanie is not overrated.... But he still better be 100% when going up against USC's defense. He is going to need that big O-Line to even be a factor in this game.

September 5, 2008  09:31 AM ET

Alright I have to get ready to work in the rain. Lucky me.:)

I think he is a liloverrated... I mean what has he done that makes people think he is so good... I'm not saving that he is not a ok back... but people are trying to make it seem like he is the next walter Payton or something

Noone ever called him the next Sweetness, he beat UM, he put up some big numbers against LSU, he runs for over 1600 hundred yards in a conference that knows he's gonna get the ball and still can't stop him. He's 240 runs fast, makes great cuts, and plays through pain.
