If the credit crunch is affecting all clubs then why does Goal.com feel the need to single out United.
Furthermore, why does FanNation think this is a story?

It's a story because wild spending and debt is catching up with these clubs, and that eventually may affect the product. And sure, it's affecting all clubs--but probably not as much as a team like Man U. That comment strikes me as some spin from the "United spokesperson."

The only reason for this story I can see, is that United along with Chelsea have purchased numerous players over the past few seasons on credit, which hasn't been completly paid back as of yet, accoriding to UEFA president Michael Platini. So a fall in the use of corporate boxes that cost a fortune, could hurt the team quite considerably. On a side note, hopefully United won't be the best in the world this time around!!

United is in debt because when the Glazer's bought the team, it was on credit. I've no idea what the interest rate is but basically the half the profits have been put to the debt and half to buying new players (which, this year, was only one: Berbatov).
A reduction in the number of luxury boxes sold would hurt but it won't by any means destroy the team's finances, esp. since TV money is guaranteed and they sell out every game at Old Trafford. A long run in the Champion's League is also a financial windfall.
Of course, deciding whether or not this is a story is up to each person, hehe.

Question--Wasn't it published recently that both Man U and Chelsea actually lost money last year despite all of the success on the pitch and all of their global branding? I know both have enormous value on paper, but I really thought that I read both operated in the red last year.

Actaully, they have shown a 30% revenue growth over the last year from what I've heard
111 million in operating income according to forbes after 394 million in revenue, second to real madrid, eventhough they are much more valuable than any club in the world
1 Manchester United England 1,800 60 24 394 111
2 Real Madrid Spain 1,285 27 24 474 112
3 Arsenal England 1,200 43 31 329 77
4 Liverpool England 1,050 65 131 269 60
5 Bayern Munich Germany 917 0 9 302 72
But of course the original debt was big, but i dont think we have the same problem as arsenal, who need to pay of their stadium as well, squeezing the cheque book, compromising the revenue
We are in the green
