K-Rod might stay with Angels

Francisco Rodriguez moved Friday to quash growing speculation that, because the closer is seeking a five-year deal in the $15-million-a-year range, he was eagerly looking to leave the Angels as a free agent this winter. "I want to clarify something," Rodriguez said before Friday night's game against the White Sox. "Just because I want to explore the market, it doesn't mean I don't want to be here. As a player, I worked hard for six years, and I earned that right to go out there and see what there is. That doesn't mean I don't want to be here. I want to see what's out there, and it would be stupid on my part if I didn't."

Big problem is that Tex is looking for a contract and he wants the big dough also. Artie has to figure out which is more valuable which in my opinion is a no brainer. Tex is good, but the Halos would not be even close to where they are with out K-Rod. Pay him the cash, let Tex and Matthews go and find some young talent to replace them. We have the BEST farm system and I would guess it would be easy to fill their roles. Also I am thinking Vlade has run his course, although intimidating, he is more of a liability now than when he was the beast.

I think Tex will end up in New York, but to which team? Also, there is no way K-Rod goes anywhere. As for Matthews, he is more of a 4th outfielder I think. He may have to take a pay cut if he wants to return to LAA. I think that Tex could return to LAA but Scott Boras wont even consider NOT going out and getting a 8yr/$150-185 million contract this off-season.Tex to NYY.Sabathia to LAD.MAtthews to LAA.K-rod to LAA.The Angels could use a better shorstop.(Mark Ellis).BUT who knows??!! Gonna BE INTERESTING!!

Im srry I thought tht Ellis was a SS.He is a 2nd baseman

September 6, 2008  09:36 AM ET

Maybe Brandon Wood???Tell what you think.

September 6, 2008  09:57 AM ET

GO to the METS please

September 6, 2008  10:12 AM ET

His arm feel off in the lockerrooom the other day.

Bravesfan, Brandon wood might be a nice grab but Erick Aybar is really good also and he is under a very light contract. If he was kept and we released Garret Anderson, Vladimir Guerrero, Gary Matthews Jr. and Mark Teixeira we would release $50 mil a year on our salary and cut out some aging talent that do produce....but not like they used to. I don't know if Jason Bay will be available but he would be a great addition and he is still young. If we had that cash available, K-rod AND Sabathia could be signed making the pitching ROCK SOLID. Pending on whose available this off season the Angels could set themselves up for years with a young healthy lineup that would be devistating. Boras needs to understand that his name players are not getting any younger and if we do get to the series this year it is because of shutdown pitching and not from run producing.

Kotch for Tex was retarded.

September 6, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Jason....no truer words have been spoken. Casey was quality and not hard on the bankroll at all. He would have given big benefits in the coming seasons. As soon as i heard of the trade, all I could think is that they were renting the name Texeria...Kotchman was a keeper. I said the same thing when Matthews was acquired, $50 mil for a middle of the road player with a great name attached...not good business sense.

September 6, 2008  12:33 PM ET

Im a Braves fan, obviously, I loved getting Kotchman. It must suck to give away part of the future for a two-month rental.UNLESS they can resign him. That is a whole different story. One thing is for sure, the Angels will be a team that could be in the running if Brewers decide to put big Prince on the trading block.Maybe a Ervin Santana or Joe Saunders for Prince? The Angels may have learned their lesson just like the Red Sox did in the Eric Gagne trade about giving up young talent.(i.e Casey Kotchman,Ervin Santana,Joe Saunders)

September 6, 2008  12:34 PM ET

Who did they give for Matthews??

September 6, 2008  12:53 PM ET

Bravesfan....Eckstein if I am not mistaken. He may have been an acquisition straght up. It was still a bad signing regardless in my opinion. And as for you getting Kotch...I hate you!! LOL!

September 6, 2008  02:04 PM ET

Ha. He has been slumping a bit that will change next year.At least I hope

September 6, 2008  02:21 PM ET

Well we know he won't be picking up in the playoffs for ya. DOH!!!!

September 6, 2008  03:16 PM ET

HGH...errr, GMJ was a free agent signing after ONE solid year in Texas...5 years $50 million dollars that my friend swears was a good deal (of course, she only says it after he makes a great catch...i tell her that it was a waste everytime i see him on the bench or when we're at the game and he's not in the lineup)

September 6, 2008  05:37 PM ET

Yeah, Gary Jrs. contract was the epitome of a team overpaying for one great season.........similar to the Mariner's signing of Adrian Beltre a few years back.

September 6, 2008  06:30 PM ET

The HGH contract has to be one of the worst ever. At least Beltre plays good defense and gets around 20 or more home runs and drives in runs. HGH is pretty much a way overpaid back up outfield.
As far as choosing between Frankie and Tex, I would take Tex over Frankie and try to sign Fuentes and let Garland walk.

September 6, 2008  08:25 PM ET

Yep, it's a bidness.

September 6, 2008  08:41 PM ET

Give the chances the Angels resign Tex and K-Rod. Mine is 50% for Tex and 85% for K-Rod
