Ruth's granddaughter questions Yanks

In the weeks leading up to the final game at the house that Ruth built, a granddaughter of Babe Ruth questions whether the franchise has properly honored his memory. Linda Ruth Tosetti said she had lobbied Yankees officials to honor Ruth. The Yankees would not discuss her efforts. The team has been very quiet about the stadium's farewell plans, although many former Yankees, their families and survivors have been invited to attend the Sept. 21 celebration. Another event is set for November. Danny Mantle, one of Mickey Mantle's two surviving sons, said he knew nothing more than that he would be at the last game.

If the Yankees were going to start celebrating individual player's accomplishments during home games, it would've taken the whole season.

They should honor the Boston owner that sold him to them so he could finance a Broadway play....

This is ridiculous. Ruth is probably the most honored player of all time! I am sure he will get his due respect. Someone put an extra shot of absolut peppar in Ruths' granddaughters bloody mary, give her a lucky strike and tell her to relax.

This old broad is angling for some free swag.

This lady says in the article that she wishes the Yankees would erect a statue or something siimilart a the new stadium of the Babe .... um, you mean a monument in the ballpark honoring the man's career isn't enough? I am sure on the day of the final ceremonies that everyone that has contributed to the Yankees' great and glorioius history wll be honored properly. But I guess for some people numbers being retired, monuments in ballparks and eveything else that has ever been done to honor the Babe isn't enough.

Who the hell are YOU ?
a grandaughter ?

you should just shut your mouth and live off of the estate your fat, drunk grandfather built for your family.

as whoode said above- Ruth is the most honored player....probably of any sport......for god sakes- yankee stadium is known as the house that RUTH built

Unless she can suddenly start hitting .320 or throw mid 90's it really doesn't matter what she has to say! The Babe was a great player and the Yankee's have always honored him accordingly throughout the decades.

Id tell that granddaughter to shut her face...his legacy has nothing to do with her lame self.

Ruth's Granddaughter is going to be at the final game???

Holy shizzz, is there any way I can still get a ticket???

I certainly wouldn't want to miss seeing the Granddaughter...

I'm sure with her going there, it will be a full house...............

September 6, 2008  10:57 AM ET

Maybe the 'Curse of the Bambino' has switched to the Yankees. If they keep 'dissing him they will keep losing. I mean, you never know.

It been a full house for the past 5 months, and who cares its a grandchild she didn't do anything

September 6, 2008  11:50 AM ET

i am sure that the Yankee's will be honoring all of the great players in yankee history, Just because she want to toot her own horn doesn't mean she is going to get what she wants..

maybe she should show up for the planned farwells, and see what is going to happen. it maybe already in the works, she should shut her mouth, have another shot, and worry about the people who are going to say " WHO THE HELL IS THAT LADY???"

September 6, 2008  12:08 PM ET

For years the Tankee organization has used the phrase "house that Ruth built" as part of their ad campaigns now they want to ignore the history. If I were a Yankee fan this year, I would like to forget the Yankees also.

September 6, 2008  01:18 PM ET

hell, they're too busy glorifying A-Fraud, Damon and the rest of those divas that they won't have time to do anything to remember the players who actually played the game for the love of the game instead of the huge paycheck, the hype and he ESPN highlights.
Somewhere, Babe Ruth is spinning in his grave.

The House that Ruth Built--no more.

The House that Steinbrenner Built--subject to more than one curse.

September 6, 2008  01:51 PM ET

Please don't take this as a Yankee attack, but what in the world does she want from them to "properly honor" a man that smoked, was a womanizer, a pig and a drunk. Have an open bar for him at O'Kellys with a buffet and some ladies...that would be exactly what would be needed to symbolize him. Not taking away ANYTHING he did as a player...he was an icon, but lets get serious. We chastize Bonds and brand him with an * for the rest of his days but we honor Ruth. If we had players doing half the stuff Babe did they would be run out of the league. A readily recognizable figure in all of sports...YES. Someone we need to honor over and over again??? NO!! It is the same as if they started honoring John Kruk 75 years down the road....minus of course the Homeruns and noteriety....the rest still applies. LOL! (that was a joke....easy john) He is a baseball player who did well.....nothing more, nothing less. Linda Ruth Tosetti, Ma'am....just let it go. The more you bark about it the more you will cheapen his name.

September 6, 2008  01:58 PM ET

Who is Babe Ruth.... never heard of him....

September 6, 2008  02:15 PM ET

The Yankees have honored Babe Ruth more than catholics honor the Pope.

September 6, 2008  02:19 PM ET

I guess she wants the New Stadium named "Vatican De La Ruth" genius. They are gonna make a little funny hat for his Bronze bust made of old catcher mits too.

Maybe Ruth's ghost can cast a curse on the Yankers like he supposedly did on the Red Sox. How would the Yankers fans handle decades without going back to the World Series? But then again, since they already have the Nim-rod curse going on, maybe Ruth's would be redundant.
