Red Wing takes it on the chin

It could only happen to Tomas Holmstrom. Holmstrom joined a few of his Red Wings teammates Friday for the first time this week at an informal skate at the City Sports Center. And, sure enough, he was parked in his familiar place in front of the net when a puck deflected off goalie Chris Osgood right into Holmstrom's face. Welcome back, Homer. Exactly," Holmstrom said. "I got it in the chin." There was a little blood, nothing serious. More importantly, Holmstrom reported his recovery from hernia surgery shortly after winning the Stanley Cup in June has gone well. "I think I'm going to be good for camp," he said.

This was such big news that they had to post it? What's next? Jon Kitna will trip over his own foot and there won't be any blood or injury, yet they will post it here anyway?

Yeah...I agree...I guess when its the offseason, you look for ANYTHING to post!

September 6, 2008  10:37 AM ET

That's probably not the first time he's taken a shot to the chin:)

T&R must be getting ready for the season coming up. This is just their preseason reporting.

September 6, 2008  11:48 AM ET

I heard he was suspended for a game and had to serve a penalty for being near the crease. Don't f&*&ck with ozzie

too bad the whole team can't take it on the chin this year...I'd love to see somebody else on ESPN besides the Dread Wings.

September 6, 2008  01:40 PM ET

Get a good team and you too will see them an ESPN.

I'd love to see any team on ESPN. Unfortunately, they don't have a contract with the NHL and we're stuck with Versus.

This is the ONLY T&R NHL story that made the cut today. Can you imagine how bad stories number 2 and number 3 are?

September 6, 2008  07:57 PM ET

No League is more boring during the offseason than the NHL!

The other stories went something like this:

Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin Mats Sundin.

Wait nevermind, T&R would've posted those.

September 6, 2008  08:44 PM ET

yeah, Sundin must have stayed in bed today, so FN had to come up with SOMETHING to entertain us.

September 6, 2008  09:53 PM ET

You mean his chin got hit by the rebound, not his kiester? Did they give his chin a penalty for being in the powder blue zone?

@Miguel#94 - Howdy. Don't tell me that you are tired of Sundin stories that don't say anything? Why that's the bread and butter of SI/FN.
