USC scouting Buckeyes QBs

USC coaches and players will watch Ohio State's game against cross-state rival Ohio University today with an eye on the quarterback situation. Fifth-year senior Todd Boeckman starts for the Buckeyes but, if last week is any indication, he will be spelled by freshman Terrelle Pryor. Boeckman is a classic drop-back passer, and Pryor is more mobile. Rotating quarterbacks present a challenge to USC defensive coaches as they devise a game plan for the Trojans' matchup with the Buckeyes on Sept. 13. Watching the game Saturday or reviewing videotape Sunday, they will look for when and how Ohio State uses Boeckman and Pryor.

You step out on to that field and its your a** buddy! Matthews, Maiva, Maualuga, and Cushing will be waiting for you!

Duh, ofcourse they are scouting them.

I think USC should be scouting the OSU defense.. I look for Sanchez to spend alot of time on his arse next week.

September 6, 2008  11:18 AM ET

Any smart program with a week off would be doing this, or even without a week off. USC is very smart and knows it will have it's hands full just like OSU will. How much he will see will be limited to the "Close to the vest" mentality that Tress has. This game will be the equal to a Michigan game and Tress will keep plays just for this game. I just hope the game lives up to the hype.

I love my Slam mater, but this is not really a story. I would hope 'SC is also scouting the defense and the running game. Maybe they are saving those headlines for later in the week. LOL

No ****. Pete is probably scouting the OSU water boy as well! Timing the boys sideline to huddle speed with his 12 bottles of water. There could be a game changing advantage there. Great article LA Times must be a slow news day.

Theres no better way to get this game more hyped up, than to produce more stories about actions that everyone knows is going on.

September 6, 2008  03:23 PM ET

man i hope ohio state was looking past ohio today, because if they werent then come SATURDAY the 13th itll be a long day for the suckeyes. Your OFFRENSE is so slow, and what even worse is you guys revolve around 1

September 6, 2008  03:24 PM ET

person, beanie well. ILL tell you this he might be the best back in CFB but hes going up against the BEST team in college football. SO sorry suckeyes FANS trojans SPEED will roll BIG TIME

Here's an idea, scout the fat, useless offensive line. Also scout the terrible offensive play calling. Does anyone know for sure , does Ohio State send it's playbook to the upcoming opponent the week before it's game or is the play calling just so inept that it seems that way?

September 6, 2008  03:57 PM ET

Did the drops on the linebackers seem familiar to anyone else, let us go back a couple of years to the NC Game against Fla. You're not a defensive back , you don't have to be 20 yeards down the field. I am a Buckeye fan and for the most part I like Tressle but get rid of the family as coaches. You didn't see Newhighsell (sp) bringing his brother to UCLA, he got an actual Offensive coordinator.

I hate USC but Ohio State looked pitiful today. They aren't a Top 25 team, much less a Top 5. If I was Pete Carrol, I'd be more afraid of playing Stanford than I would OSU.

September 6, 2008  03:59 PM ET

They should scout browns or bengals those are the only teams in ohio that can hang with trogans.

September 6, 2008  04:02 PM ET

I also think we need to go out and find 10 moreThad Gibsons and put them on defense. Have some attitude, some meanness, and for crying out loud, have some passion. Again, Big Buckeye fan, but just like last year and the year before, "oh we're Ohio State, we're great, we don'tneed to get fired up,we're better than everyone else." I love it when these unknows play their ##s off and show up the ones who don't. And don't give me that , yep looking ahead stuff, they need to show something first before they start looking anywhere.

As a big Buckeye fan, I have to say you may be right, Just because everyone is returning from last year, what if they weren't that good last year and got no better for this year? YES, they won the big 10 last year but show something great and then we can rank you up there. They could have been great this year if they would have worked their !!ses off during the off season, but it looks like the same team to me as the last 2 years.

ok, enough of my ranting, time to watch Okla and see what kind of effort Cinn. puts up.

September 6, 2008  04:17 PM ET

all right i lied, here's my point Vandy just like UCLA last week, every play you saw great effort and in UCLA's case great play calling. A school like OSU should have the same, no matter who they are playing, saw neither today.

September 6, 2008  04:26 PM ET

All USC has to do is be a TINY bit better than Ohio was today. OSU is hardly the best school in the state...
