Ex-Lightning coach rips new owners
Before offering his first critique as an analyst, former Lightning coach John Tortorella didn't hold back in assessing his prior team's new regime. While Tortorella, who was fired in May after seven years as a Lightning coach, will begin working for TSN television as a studio analyst this hockey season, he didn't hold back on Thursday during an interview with 1200 The TEAM in Ottawa. When asked by hosts Steve Lloyd and Jason York about the changes the Lightning made over the summer, which included firing Tortorella, the 2004 Jack Adams winner didn't have kind words for the Tampa Bay's new ownership group led by Oren Koules and Len Barrie. "You got a couple of cowboys in there as owners," Tortorella said. "How you treat your people and run your business is very important in this league. I look at the club and how some things have been done and how they treated Danny Boyle and really lying to the kid, and some of the other things that have gone on there, it's a total different team." Tortorella was also critical of trading Boyle, who said the day he was traded that the new ownership bullied him into accepting a trade to San Jose.

That or the fact the guys feels he got screwed by two owners that also want to play GM and coach. Lots of things owners do look good on paper yet never turn into anything i.e. Washington Redskins.

Just because torts is mad, doesn't make his point invalid. Look at the moves made by the new ownership and you'll see he's right. They have a green defense, no number one goalie and every forward with a good year behind them that they could get their hands on. This team is gunning for the number one draft pick, fightin' the kings for it.

Tortorella dug his own grave with the Lightning. After the season he said maybe it would be better if the Lightning and him parted ways, but then changed his mind.

Even though Tortorella has had his day in the sun and it was time for him to move on, I am a bit uneasy with how the new owners are conducting business in TB. I haven't figured it out yet but something is not quite right over there. I guess time will tell.

Tortorella is a good coach and what he says about these new owners is true and he has every right to rip them. And this is coming from a Flyers fan.

I could understand why he's upset with the new owners, but saying that they shouldn't be wanting to change the direction? Uh, Torts? You had one of the worst records in the NHL last season. Generally, after a season like that, a change of direction is in order.

Tortorella has never backed away from publicly deriding players and benching anyone not in his favour. Hiring/firing is part of the business as a coach, handle it like a man and don't whine. It's hard for us regular types to feel sorry for a guy who had one of the longer tenures in the NHl, living in FLA, and making some major cash.
Anyhting but "thanks for the great years in Tampa and the opportunity to win a Cup" sounds like sour grapes.

Win a cup and you're the man...but u go on a streak of barely making the playoffs, you can't expect the Big Wigs to keep you around. I agree with joec with his last statement. Sounds like Torts got butt hurt!

Torts is a hypocrite. " How you treat your people in this league are very important". Meanwhile he's blasting his own players in the press every other day. Sour grapes indeed. Grow a brain there Fonzi and pull your foot outta your mouth and shut it.
The leafs will make the play-offs!
