Houston coming back to Knicks?

Allan Houston's plans at a second comeback attempt might happen again with the Knicks. The 37-year-old former All-Star shooting guard has been working out and playing all summer and, according to multiple sources, Houston has spoken recently with Donnie Walsh about an invite to training camp later this month in Saratoga Springs. A person close to Houston said he "looks at this as the last opportunity to give it an honest and fair shot." Houston retired on Oct. 17, 2005 after chronic knee troubles. The Knicks have an interest in Houston - especially if he shows he can still shoot it like he used to - but Walsh is believed to have an interest in including Houston in something on the basketball operations side of the business if he isn't able to make the roster.

...as far as playing again, alan needs to give it up. he might could get five minutes of garbage time and take a three-pointer or two in a game, but he will never be able to contribute in a meaningful way...why tarnish the image?...but that begs the question, if the knicks are willing to consider him for a front-office role, where's ewing in all of this? do the knicks not want ewing, or are his demands and expectations simply too high? what about offering a job to your team's icon?....

Come on now.

September 7, 2008  10:05 AM ET

...he probably sees all these bums who can't shoot making a fortune and figures he's still better than alot of them...

September 7, 2008  10:26 AM ET

There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for the Knicks to even give him a shot.
he at this stage is a part-time shooter.

The knicks are at least 2 years away from even competig for a PLAYOFF spot
what would be the point of bringing him back>?
- if anything he should go to a contender that needs a shooter....
say Cleveland? Orlando?

Please stay retired Allan.

I for one really hate to see old players of any sport continue to embarass themselves...There ought to be a committee in each sport that has a sole responsibility to inform players when they are toast...

They could probably streamline the process by automatically imbedding a shut-off chip (Similar to the Lo-Jack car recovery system) into players when they hit 35. Provisions should also be made to include players that look much older (like Greg Oden looking like my grand-father).

When a player is deemed washed up after an annual review, the committee could send out a signal to the chip that directs the player to either A) take his game to the Italian "B" league, or B) dissappear gracefully from the public scene.

Wishful thinking, I guess....

This dude has no shot but hey they are the KNICKS.

September 7, 2008  09:01 PM ET

Why not? Who else can shoot like he does on the team ....... If you wanna call it a team

September 8, 2008  12:28 AM ET

Oh no, there was nothing average about Houstons shot. As sweet as there ever was. Highly overpaid..agreed, but aren't they all?
