Texans, Saints interested in Benson

Former Bears running back Cedric Benson, released by the team June 9 after two alcohol-related off-season arrests, said Saturday he has a tryout with the Houston Texans this week. Benson also said by phone he'd had a workout with the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago and that it "went well." Benson believes teams are waiting for his legal matters to be cleared up before signing him. Benson maintains he was treated unfairly in both arrests in Austin, Texas. One was for boating while intoxicated, the other for driving under the influence. As for his stint with the Bears, the fourth pick in the 2005 draft said he'd taken steps to make sure he would have a breakout year.

Even if he was a problem off the field, they really should have worked with him. He is a great addition to any team that picks him up.

lol your delusional. hes a scrub. runs with no power & hes slower than a fullback. then while getting introuble with boating while intoxicated, what does he do...goes out and drinks and drives 7 days later. benson is an idiot and sucks

Texas and N.O. ? Great place(s) for a recovering alcoholic to play at. Why not just hook him up to an alcohol IV drip while your at it. I guess 2 rehab stints and a team required drug/alcohol program failed to correct the problem.

September 7, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Hey let them have him he show us nothing why he was in chicago. He was just another bust coming out of college and very over-rated

September 7, 2008  10:20 AM ET

With the right line he will make a team money. He has been in Chicago with a line like butter.

September 7, 2008  10:43 AM ET

In addition to his many wonderful talents, he also doesn't steal luggage. So that's a plus for anyone that picks him up.

You've got to be kidding me..........This mutha fukka is a joke and has been since he left Texas/ Dayum I should have went out for sports back in the day.

Benson maintains he was treated unfairly in both arrests in Austin.

Here's the problem. The punk wants to push blame for his actions on the police. When you're arrested twice in a short period of time - like Benson - you're the problem, not the cops.

I hope this stupid POS never works in the NFL again.

If he joins the Texans he will be worth a spot on fantasy teams

As What? The designated driver/boatsman? Well he can make the beer run for everybody...............

September 7, 2008  11:39 AM ET

Why?

September 7, 2008  11:53 AM ET

NO ... ? Yeah, that sounds like a good plan ... give him a contract and let him loose in the French Quarter ...

"Benson maintains he was treated unfairly in both arrests in Austin, Texas..."

One BUI [Boating Under the Influence] and one DUI. Yeah...it's unfair treatment of the Austin authorities to arrest him. Moron, should be locked up for endangering the lives of others, and suspended from the NFL for at least one season!

September 7, 2008  12:31 PM ET

He never did anything with the Bears except get paid. They should have shipped him out right after their Super Bowl appearance. BROWNS 33 COWBOYS 27

Good avatar, 'cause whatever you're eating is affecting your judgment. (Stay off the liver!) Benson = El Busto Magnifico. The only surprise is that the Cowboys haven't invited him to the house.

Yep. Most times, he run to the tackler. Useless.

Limited use.. offer low money and expect that in performance.

Watching the Bengals game....if Johnson did in fact change his name to Ocho Cinco, why doesn't the roster reflect it?
