Donnie Walsh is on the verge of correcting one of Isiah Thomas' biggest financial mistakes. Walsh, the Knicks president, confirmed Saturday that the Knicks are in talks with the Memphis Grizzlies about a possible deal for Zach Randolph, the veteran power forward who doesn't fit into Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo offense. "There is no deal," Walsh said over the telephone early Saturday. "We've spoken to Memphis but there is nothing happening so far." A source close to the negotiations said that a trade is unlikely to take place before Monday.

Heh, the Grizzlies haven't got much to offer back, in terms of what they should actually part ways with.

If there is a trade it will be Randolph for Darko Milicic and Marko Jaric

Knicks and Grizzlys trade? Do they even have a player on either team worth trading for?

September 7, 2008  09:44 AM ET

...they are both trying to correct past deals that didn't work out...this deal may actually help both teams this time....

the knicks best player is Mr. Starbury & the grizzlies best player is rudy gay we all know rudy aint goin any where starbury will likely be waived but im sure the grizzlies dont want a starbury who thinks he is a star!

September 7, 2008  09:59 AM ET

...bravesfan has it right - it would be for milicic and jaric...milicic welcomes the trade....(randolph probably does too)...and jaric won't playing much in memphis behind mayo, conley, crittenton, and lowry....

September 7, 2008  10:12 AM ET

I know why the Knicks want to do this deal but not sure why the Griz want to. Do they think Randolph will help them win games? Better question do they think its a good idea to bring him around their young nucleus?

September 7, 2008  10:21 AM ET

I don't think I would do this-
darko has 2 years & Jaric has THREE left

Granted Randolph is a fat bas tard.....
but he can score and rebound
and if Jaric had 2 years- I'd do it- but what's the point in trading
when you aren't gaining any less time off the contracts?

Three basketballs and a round trip ticket to a place to be named later should be enough for Zack as a basketball player.

September 7, 2008  10:41 AM ET

What does Memphis have that will allow the salaries to work? Are the Knicks going after Darko? The Clippers had enough cap space to take on Randolph's contract without having to give back equal salary, Walsh turned that deal down. What's happened to change his mind? Smart money says this is just talk.

September 7, 2008  10:42 AM ET

The Knicks would have to eat alot of moolah to make it work.

September 7, 2008  10:45 AM ET

This entire team is one big financial mistake. It will take years to fix the disaster Isiah left. Hopefully he'll find his calling scouting players in Tibet and Mongolia.

September 7, 2008  11:08 AM ET

The Knicks need to get rid of everyone involved in the disaster that was last season. Randolph would be a good start. Doesn't matter if you get anything in return. It's called addition by subtraction.

Grizz getting a good deal here

September 7, 2008  11:27 AM ET

It looks to me like the plan in New York is to go ABA, run, run, run. In a league where the Celtics and Pistons nightly demonstrate that winning is about defense the Knicks are turning into a half court team. Hiring D'Antoni was yet another bone-headed move by the worst organization in sports. I don't understand the accolades for Donnie, I never won anything in Indiana, Walsh either. As long as the name Dolan is associated with the Knicks they will be cellar dwellers. I expect the Celtics will blow the Knicks out by 30 on a regular basis this season.

amazing how quick things change. 2 yrs ago randolph was considered a future franchise player, now he is just a contract.
