Frank Thomas hasn't said whether he's going off into the sunset after the season, but there are signs that he may. The slugger was placed on the disabled list and is done for the season with an injured right thigh. If this is it, Thomas, 40, will join Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, and Mel Ott as the only players who finished their careers hitting .300, with 500 home runs, 1,000 runs, and 1,500 walks. Thomas has a.301 career average with 521 homers, 1,494 runs, 1,704 RBIs, and 1,667 walks in 2,322 games. Pretty impressive career.

he should hang it up , he had a great career but he is showing his age

September 7, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Hang it up because after another season that career average will be below .300 and he wont be mentioned with Teddy, Ruth, and Ott

DITTO.....get out while the stats [.300] are good-excellent. Why take a chance on a stupid play that makes living in retirement a REAL pain.

September 7, 2008  11:20 AM ET

Go home, Frank.

If being able to hit .300 is the litmus test, a lot of guys don't cut it. Frank should play if he has the passion and desire. It would seem more likely if the A's were contending, rather than continually trading away the help needed to get there. Frank's not far removed from some decent power numbers, but he won't be the complete player of yesteryear.

Ted could have sate out the last game in 1941, and be gauranteed a .400 ave, instead he played and added to it.

franks the man and he should walk away

September 7, 2008  03:18 PM ET

Frank, you've had a good career. IT's time for HOF

September 7, 2008  05:58 PM ET

Can we talk about possible offseason moves by the Yankees and Red Sox instead?

September 7, 2008  06:32 PM ET

Unless they can find a less physically taxing position than DH for Frank, I think he's done.
