Kings deny Khabibulin interest

Have no fear, says Los Angeles general manager Dean Lombardi, the Kings will make it to the NHL's salary "floor" of $40.7 million in player payroll before opening night. However, the financial formula will not include, contrary to rumors in recent weeks, taking high-priced goalie Nikolai Khabibulin off Chicago's hands, or dealing away budding superstar forward Anze Kopitar.

They'd better not trade Kopitar.

If they trade Kopitar for Khabibulin, the "midget in charge" should investigte the Kings. To borrow a line from Spiny, Bettman S**KS

Go Hawks ....trade him.

The sad thing is Khabibulin would be an improvement in the crease for the Kings...

September 7, 2008  05:34 PM ET

Makes no sense for a last place teams to acquire an overprice aging goalie.

The Kings would have to be absolutely stupid to trade Anze Kopitar for anybody, much less for an old, injury prone, overpaid Nikolai Khabibulin. He ain't worth the money and he certainly ain't worth Kopitar.

The Kings cap payroll is at $36.6 mil. Kopitar is due $955,867. He will be a free agent at the end of the year. Granted, he'll be an RFA, but why not try and extend him long-term for the money that he's worth now so that another team doesn't come in and poach him with an offer that is too big for the Kings ownership to match next year? He'd get $7 mil a year at least, but maybe they could get him for under that if they act now.

Over paid and old yes.........

This is old news; this was debunked when the rumor first surfaced a couple of months back. The Kings said that they have no intention of trading Kopitar and plan to have him in their system for years to come. I see LA signing one or two vets, and then, like wtnelson said, will probably sign Kopitar, O'Sullivan and Frolov to extensions.

I'm kinda hoping the Kings will finish last so they get the top pick next year, but they'll probably mess that up too lol

They have no interest because most people in LA can't spell Khabibulin

Kopitar isnt going anywhere. The title might have well said "Caps not interested in trading away Ovechkin". Lombardi would be fired the second after he made that deal. Me thinks that the Hawks are having a hard time finding a trading partner for the Broken Wall.

The leafs will make the play-offs!
