Hideki Matsui and the Yankees haven't ruled out him returning next year with knees healthy enough for him to play the outfield. "He could still play the outfield after the surgery," manager Joe Girardi said of the 34-year-old left fielder who has played 20 games in left and two in right this year, but hasn't been in the field since June 15. Matsui didn't play from June 16 to Aug. 19 thanks to an inflamed left knee.

It's time to say sayanara to Hideki! The Yankee's have many problems and getting younger and healthier are just two of them, and Hideki doesn't fit that bill anymore, they need to turn the page and move on.

I thought he had 1 more year left.......hmmmm

If he is up for Free agency-
GOODBYE
- he is a VERY good player, clutch as well....but the Yanks desperately
need to get younger and with the glut of players - who are basially
all the same....they need to start trimming the fat.

Let Abreu walk as well.

Keep Nady, Damon (who is under contract- no choice)
and give a kid a chance - OR - pick up a veteran who is IN their prime....not on the way down

Time to get rid of Pulldeki.

Depends on how much he wants. If he wants a lot of cash, the Yank Offs can trade him somewhere such as San Fran.

inframed knee? dat not gonna be a probrem next yea! he gonna have da whorl offseason fo knee to get betta! Giambi gonna go! who gonna DH, Posada? ooooooohaihaihaihaihaihaihaihai! dat too funny! it so funny i jus pee my pant again! Matsui gonna stay, gonna DH! Dey gonna have Abreu Gardener an Nady in da outfierd. Damon gonna get trade fo prospecs, hopefurry for dem, pitching prospecs!

If Matsui goes, and Giambi goes, and Abreu goes, who exactly is going to play for the Yankees next year? Other than Nady (who is great) and an aging Damon, there's not much left .

I saw get manny as a DH/4th outfielder....even with him at 36....there isnt any other right hander hitter that puts fear in other team like him. Get Texeria for first.

September 7, 2008  03:41 PM ET

Abreu stays
Giambi goes
Matsui is under contract until after next season
Make a play for Teixeria

So you will be replacing Giambi with Teixieria, not a bad deal

It's time for the Yankee's to go through a rebuilding process, wipe the slate clean of all your over paid non producers and get some real talent back on the field. I say this in all honesty, they should keep a few of the players and build around that, they shouldn't be afraid to let people go. Not at this stage, they just aren't competitive in the long run.

The Yankees need to adjust their strategy. The under performing players need to go. A .250 BA just doesn't cut it. Reviewing drafts back to 2000 says it all. Replace the scouting team at the same time.

let's hope he gets healthy--everyone knows he's a great player when he's healthy (which, if i may remind you, he was for years, playing every game) and dedicated to the team.

giambi will be replaced by teixeira, and as much as i love giambi, the yanks will be in better shape with teixeira.

they need abreu.

they need c.c.
