Mickelson, Byrd brothers in Mid-Am

Tim Mickelson and Jordan Byrd have a lot in common. Mickelson is the head golf coach at the University of San Diego and Byrd is an assistant at Clemson University. Both reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship last year. Anything else? Oh, yeah. Tim is the younger brother of Phil Mickelson and Jordan is the older brother of Jonathan Byrd. Perhaps you've heard of them. While Phil and Jonathan play for FedEx Cup funny money in the PGA Tour's BMW Championship today, their brothers will be trying to advance to match play in one of the most important championships in amateur golf. On Saturday, in the first round of stroke-play qualifying at the 28th U.S. Mid-Amateur, Tim Mickelson shot a 1-under-par 69 and Jordan Byrd had a 70.
