Liddell will get another chance

Have no doubt that unless he voluntarily decides to quit, Chuck Liddell will land another big Ultimate Fighting Championship match. He'll come prancing to the ring to the roars of a crowd that loves him no matter what. But unless the UFC's biggest attraction begins to diversify his game, he's not going to have any more of the triumphant victories that have made him the face of mixed martial arts. "The Iceman" was knocked out with a single overhand right in the second round of an otherwise uneventful fight Saturday by Rashad Evans at UFC 88 at Philips Arena. Like he'd done when he lost his light heavyweight title to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson last year, Liddell missed an uppercut and paid for it by getting knocked out. The cold, hard facts are these: Liddell has lost three of his past four and has not beaten a fighter coming off of a victory since he blew out Tito Ortiz in December 2006. Since, Liddell has been TKO'd by Jackson, lost a desultory decision to Keith Jardine and won a stirring victory over Wanderlei Silva.

Win one more fight and then retire, Chuck. His one-dimensional style and AGE no longer are going to put him at the championship caliber and there are too many younger and more well-rounded fighters coming up in the sport. And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEAAAAASE don't fight Anderson Silva next. If you think last night looked bad with Chuck on the mat for 5 minutes looking like a corpse, I don't even want to imagine what Silva would do to him. Thanks for the memories and the kickass fight with Wanderlei, but call it quits soon.

Liddell is a chump. Evans whooped this boys buttt!! Liddell wants some sort of legacy with all of this pre-fight shower made up story. You can look at him and tell what he is all about....just making stuff up to hide his real identity. Sure he is a bar room fighter throwing bombs and getting lucky on some that hit. No skills...at all.

HAHAHAH!!! HE GOT KNOCKED THE #*^$ OUT!!!! I told you he was washed up long ago. Let him go!!!

September 7, 2008  12:23 PM ET

You guys can bash him all you want, but he's done more than either one of you Bond or Killer. He got knocked out. It happens. He'll fight again. Of course his best days are behind him. He's 38.

Retire Chuck. That one lucky shot made you who you are. Now that one lucky shot your looking for is going to put you to shame. Skills is require in this sport and frankly you do not have any old man!! Rashad Awesome fight dude!!!

September 7, 2008  12:59 PM ET

Sure Rashad won the fight but why is everyone ignoring the fact that he ran from Chuck the entire fight. Chuck was far more agressive and came to fight. That was not an impressive win. Chuck needs to stop taking the bait and allow the lesser opponent prove himself more.

Were are all those chuck liddell fans at now? I told you this last month. You say i was crazy and didn't know what the hell i was talkin about. Now what ?

September 7, 2008  01:08 PM ET

I think it's clear Chuck isn't as good as he used to be. Whether that means he'll retire or not, I don't know. I recall Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz fighting even though their skills had deteriorated. I suspect Chuck will do the same, perhaps he should be wise and fight less fierce opponents. Maybe changing MMA organizations and fighting lesser fighters would help, but if he generates revenue then I can't see UFC letting him go.

I think well see a long road towards retirement with more fights for Chuck

No djsbrvs it wasn't a agressive win, it was a smart and convincing highlight win. And as far as a lesser opponent, The knock out shows who's the lessor fighter. You are lookin at the next LT heavyweight champion. GREAT FIGHT RASHAD!!!!

Shut up you morons and stop licking Evens balls. Evens was a **** for running like a scared little girl that he is, and he got lucky as well. Evens will never be as good as Liddell was in his prime. Let me just wipe the **** of your nose KRSMMA!

September 7, 2008  02:30 PM ET

he did get knocked the hell out....damn:)

September 7, 2008  05:57 PM ET

I think he broke my Jaw ....

September 7, 2008  06:35 PM ET

Even Roy Jones said he should retire.

September 7, 2008  06:49 PM ET

Why does everyone say that certain fighters run?!?! You can always tell when someone has never been in any type of combat at all, wether it be boxing, MMA, Kickboxing, wrestling, etc....Its called defense. Its called playing to your weakness, NOT getting hit, etc....Granted Evans is BY FAR not a great fighter, or defensive fighter, BUT he was defensivly waiting for his chance to strike. Just like Mayweather Jr and Pernel Whitaker in boxing, they never ran, the boxed defensivly, waiting for their chances and opportunites. Now I would hope you "stupid" fans, can get it right for future forums.

September 7, 2008  06:50 PM ET

Oops, hahha i meant playing to your strengths, too much football going on today...

September 7, 2008  08:26 PM ET

there is NO SUCH thing as running away in a fight, you cant run away in a cage people, so rashad was smart and did what needed to be done to win. He waited and struck at the right time. As for chuck he needs to learn something else, because boxing will only get you so far. He should do more ju jitsu or just RETIRE before silva makes a mocekry out of him, like tito did shamrock!!!!!!!

September 7, 2008  11:39 PM ET

Okay he wasnt running but it makes for a very boring fight. And its funny for you to say that i havent been in any "real combat" behind a computer. I served my country and ive been in plenty to hand to hand and weapons combat situations. And i do agree that Liddell does need to hone his ju jitsu skills to win again.

Why is everyone dissing Chuck? A couple years ago when he knocked out Randy Couture twice within 12 months you were probably his biggest fan. He took the UFC to a different level. His skills are starting to diminish (it happens to everybody, even Fedor and Anderson Silva eventually) Gets off his nuts.

Evans ran don't make excuses for him ,He's a timid counter puncher who beat a 38 year old one demensional fighter . Time will tell if Evans is anything more.
