An NFL source said Patriots coach Bill Belichick told his team that Tom Brady's injury could be bad and to prepare for Matt Cassel to be the quarterback going forward, but the source could not confirm the diagnosis of a torn ACL. A separate league source said that Brady was resting at home last night and would undergo "further evaluation" - most likely an MRI - Monday, and the expectation is that it will confirm a serious knee injury.

Craft: "I mean come on, I've seen you on TV...you look like you can still play. Plus, in case Gostkowski goes down....it's like the whole two birds, one stone line. Whaddya say deuce?"

Flutie: "The only way I'm coming back is if Victor Kiam personally apologizes to me and sends 18 Remington shavers as an olive branch."

Craft: "Vic died Dougie. He was dead the last time you suited up. Remember his old office chair is encased in glass behind the third tier beer gardens?"

Flutie: "Crap. I guess I'm out. See about those shavers for me and I might get Tony Eason on the horn for you."

Craft: "Your drive a hard bargin deuce. Maybe Bledsoe is available."

Bledsoe: "I've been on three-way the whole time Crafty....you just say the word and I'm on the first flight back east. I knew you'd come around."

Craft: "Oh....hey Drew...sorry...what I meant was...maybe Bledsoe is available to grab those shavers for the Fluteman. Kind of a third party negotiator of sorts. I know you received a butt load as part of your rookie incentive package. Sorry to get your hopes up."

Bledsoe: "Oh....I see....no my hopes weren't up...I just thought...nevermind. Call me later Dougie. (click)

Flutie: "Way to go Craft. Now I'm going to spend the rest of the night talking Drew off of the ledge....again. Thanks for the offer but I just don't like the way Moss plays. Gimme a few more Welkers and you have a shot"

Craft: "Someone get Kevin Curtis' agent on the phone."

Well it can work out some how. You can go back to the short passing game with some dump off pass to Welker or Ben (when he health) and go to the run game more this season then last season. It's not the end of the world, Pats still have chance. I'm mad that Brady got hurt but they have to get ready for the next game with or wtithout Brady.

September 8, 2008  09:07 AM ET

All Brady needs are a couple sutures from Dr. Morgan...He's playing next week!

September 8, 2008  09:32 AM ET

No body knows nothing about Brady until Wednesday, Cassel played well,
it would be fitting to all you Pariots haters if Cassel leads Pats to SB,
but in any event the guy will improve with each game,
Karma come at ya to those who wish serious injury to any one,
Hell's a Coming!!!

September 8, 2008  10:01 AM ET

this is the worst possible thing that could happen to my patriots. Im still in shock, but the team needs to get it togetheir and support matt cassel. Remember we still have a collection of talent all over the field. Its time to step it up just like you always do, and keep the patriot philosphy and domination alive. GO PATS!!!!!

September 8, 2008  10:06 AM ET

It could be worse. The back-up could be Sarah Palin..

September 8, 2008  10:07 AM ET

I'm thinking the NFL section os now becoming the Tom Brady and his hurt knee section...$20 says the Pats don't even list him on the injury report since they play stupid games like that.

September 8, 2008  10:08 AM ET

Brady was an unknown backup when he got a chance to play due to injury. Now it's Cassel's opportunity to make the best of. Hope they sign Sims as a backup to complete the rooster. Of course, there's always Culpepper, bet he'd come out of retirement. Also, don't forget Vinnie, he lives near by.

September 8, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Pats are done. J-E-T-S, Bretts, Bretts, Bretts have a shot to take the AFC East this year now.

Drew Bledsoe wants to know if he can have HIS job back now

September 8, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Well, don't let Brady go to waste. Time to chop him down and use him for spare parts. Such a great day in the NFL today.

That was enjoyable.

September 8, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Maybe he can be like Brady and come out of nowhere and succeed. The only difference is that Brady had meaningful snaps while at Michigan. Cassel only had 33 snaps at USC.

The last time he had pressure like this was high school, and four a four year NFL vet that's a long damn time ago.

September 8, 2008  10:42 AM ET

Cassel don't have to be Brady to win, yes games will be a lot closer now but if defenes can step it up and the running game looks good, some passes here and there from Cassel will be fine I think we have a chance making the playoffs but we will see what happens, I am still a Pats fan we have to keep fighting.

Boohoo! pretty boy Brady is hurt. now he can spend all his time with his glamor models and father even more children out of wedlock ... wouldn't want football to get in the way of his stud service/escort enterprises ... will the media still follow his every move? or is this 'injury' being hyped so he can have a big 'return' to save the day?
