The Globe's Christopher L. Gasper also confirms that the Patriots are hosting free-agent quarterback Chris Simms on a visit at Gillette Stadium on Monday. And ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that the team will also bring in free agent quarterback Tim Rattay, an eight-year veteran who played last season with the Arizona Cardinals.

Brady getting injured is so funny. After all of this gloating BS from the past season. It could be like permanent gimp type of deal. They better get somebody to QG, because if not....they got a big baby in Moss that is got start running his foul mouth.

September 8, 2008  05:11 AM ET

No Culpepper? He at least deserves a phone call. Culpepper to Moss is alot better than Cassell IMO.

September 8, 2008  05:23 AM ET

HAHAHAHAHAHHA I AM SOOOOOOOO LMAO!!! THAT"S WHAT YOU GET FOR CHEATING PATRIOTS!!!!! SOOOOO DESERVING IT"S FUNNY! HAHAHAHAHA!!!

September 8, 2008  06:19 AM ET

Simms....better than Rattay, but that is not saying much. Cassell will need a back up.

Agent047
Get over it. Spy gate is soooooooooo last year.

As much as this blows it's part of the game. I still say the Pats beat the Jets next week. Favre wasn't so impressive yesterday. Those Hail Mary's wont land in the end zone every week.

Pats are still the team to beat in the AFC East. Behind them are the Bills, not the Jets.

September 8, 2008  06:39 AM ET

I say bring back Vinny Testaverde. He probably could use some work.

September 8, 2008  06:51 AM ET

Intersting indeed........what not stick with the backups for now.......

September 8, 2008  07:02 AM ET

No one deserves that injury... it will be interesting. I do think the Pats will compete but their shot at a superbowl is over.. QB is not just a talented player but leader.

September 8, 2008  07:09 AM ET

anyone who says this was deserved, or they had it coming is an immature moron who's team must have been a victim of the Pats....

September 8, 2008  07:27 AM ET

That's a lack of class to say an injury was deserved. Brady has been a top knotch qb since he took over for that snail Bledsoe. I say bring in Culpepper to see if he has anything left, I don't believe those retirement papers have been sent in yet.

September 8, 2008  07:34 AM ET

Simms might be the best call at this point. As much as I'm glad that I don't have to hear the words Tom Brady & Perfection 8,000 times a week this season, looks like the sportscasters are just going to substitute Brett Favre this season.

September 8, 2008  07:35 AM ET

as odd as this sounds, and it was inconceivable 6 months ago, do the jets now have a chance in that division?

September 8, 2008  07:53 AM ET

Culpepper might be a good option for them....................

September 8, 2008  07:53 AM ET

Bond at his best. Makes one stupid statement and isn't man enough to hang around and back it up. What a puzzy!.

September 8, 2008  08:25 AM ET

I feel bad for the Patriots. Of all the position in the Patriots that goes down and it has to be the most important position. I wonder if it's karma on Belicheat. After last season Brady looks like the best QB ever but the Giants derailed him. Brady has proven that he could be like Joe Montana but last year he proved that he could be like Dan Marino.

September 8, 2008  08:29 AM ET

Bond makes his stupid remarks and then has to run to catch the school bus. Total Idiot!!

All the haters will come out of the woodwork today. They think Brady going down gives their team a shot at beating the Pats.

September 8, 2008  08:40 AM ET

Agreeing with Guam Bailer, appogeee360 and Go Boys! An offensively, stupid idiot.

Whatever, Pats fans. You gloated all last year with the perfect record, were indignant that anyone would actually disapprove of your cheating, and took delight in running up the score and embarrassing people. Well, Brady was a benefactor of the cheating for years, gleefully took part of the arrogance--remember him saying how much fun it was to be the bad guy--and never asked to be taken off the field as he was racking up personal stats and embarrassing of other teams.

Just like you all said "well, stop us" in response to the running-it-up complaints, let me say this: Well, develop your back-ups. But, no, up 35 points last year Brady was still in. Wouldn't it have been nice for Cassel to have some reps last season? To know if he could handle it or whether you needed a different back-up? The Pats had the luxury of getting a backup playing time in actual games against opposing teams really trying to win. Not camp, not preseason. And they opted instead to embarrass people.

If you think I have an ounce of sympathy for Brady or the Pats, you are delusional. You reap what you sow, and if you like being the bad guys you can't now whine when people wish you ill. But why should it surprise me that you pathetic punks can dish it when your team is 18-0 out but don't have the stones to take it in return when they complete the greatest choke in football history and then have their injury luck run out?

Try having some humility and respect next time you are up if you want anyone to sympathisize when you are down. If the rest of the NFL was the Pats, they'd spend this year going for 2 and blitzing whatever poor schlub you have at QB when already up by 30. But I bet that, unlike the Pats, they will have enough intelligence and class to get the win and move on.

Brady, Belichick, the team, and you fans all damn well deserve this. It's karma, and it is a bi+ch.
