Ridgeland's Michael Bowman, arguably the state's top prospect at wide receiver, said on Sunday night that he has decided not to wait any longer on his "dream school" of Georgia, and he will commit to Alabama. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Bowman said he is "very close" to meeting college entrance requirements. He said Georgia promised a scholarship offer, providing he raises his test scores. Bowman said other schools recruiting him, including Alabama, have gone ahead and extended offers, assuming he'll eventually qualify.

Extended offer as in a free Escalade. Homey ain't stupid!

Gerogia= Admission standards

Alabama= Bring yo' **** in!

September 8, 2008  10:09 AM ET

A heartbeat is all that is required to be admitted to Alabama. Saban will promise scholarships to 30-35 kids even if he only has 24 or 25nto give. He is the perfect example of why people scoff at the term "student athlete".

September 8, 2008  10:14 AM ET

How close is very close, anyway?

September 8, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Wow!!! This kid is going to regret this decision. LOL can't bring up your test scores can ya?? Have fun at ChokeArtist University.

September 8, 2008  11:21 AM ET

In other news - Walmarts across the state of Alabama are selling out of ammo. Citizens are saying "Russia might invade Georgia but they won't take Alabama!"

September 8, 2008  11:43 AM ET

LOLOL...you guys are too funny....keep hatin'

September 8, 2008  12:47 PM ET

I don't have to hate after that performance against Tulane. Ya'll make it too easy.

September 8, 2008  01:58 PM ET

To be borderline on admission standards usually dictates that there is a huge gamble involved in signing the athlete. Maybe Georgia didn't think that he could stay eligible even if he was admitted.

September 8, 2008  02:19 PM ET

ummm, he chose Alabama because UGA DIDN'T OFFER him. That's not exactly "Picking Alabama over Georgia", that's "Picking Alabama because Georgia wants him to raise his grades and he can't."

Again, he didn't pick Bama over UGA, and odds are he'll raise his grades (it's not THAT hard) and then UGA will offer as promised (Mark Richt never lies), and he'll switch and jump to the Dawgs.

Kid had no catches the second game of the year last week, so I'm not so sure how great he is, and he had pretty average stats in the first game. Still a good player though and good bloodline.

September 8, 2008  02:43 PM ET

I don't know if there's gonna be room on the roster. Georgia is brimming at the ears with WR's. I guess once Massoquoi, Goodman, and Harris leave there will be more room.

September 8, 2008  02:49 PM ET

I wasn't hating. I was just curious to know how close to qualifying is close? Honestly at his height he and Julio Jones would give DB's hell.

September 8, 2008  03:51 PM ET

The headline made me click so I guess it worked but it's totally wrong.

As someone already said he didn't pick Bama over UGA, he just settled for what he could get.

If CMR thought he was not an eligibility risk he might offer him.

September 8, 2008  03:59 PM ET

Sounds to me like he might think his grades won't rise, therefore he won't ever get that scholarship offer from his "Dream School". So, in order to secure something, he has verbally committed to Alabama.

September 8, 2008  04:02 PM ET

When he raises his grades and stays with Bama it will pay off. As for all the "personal" attacks above on UA, that is where people go when they have no substance.

UGA has great players and a great coach. Alabama is its way to the former and has the latter. Get used to it SEC. Our success will come at the expense of (primarily) AU, but our appearance in Atlanta shows we are coming to Georgia as well.

September 8, 2008  04:08 PM ET

Alabama was ranked number 37 by US News and World reports so I wouldnt act like they are a school of idiots. We were only ranked 20th. Let him go where he wants. I have seen him play and wish we would offer him. Saban signed three kids to go the JUCO route this year and will probably do the same with Bowman. I wont talk trash about bama till we play them, especially since most of my bammer friends hope we go all the way this year(anyone but Auburn and Tennessee to them) Good luck Mr. Bowman. Go Dawgs

September 8, 2008  05:09 PM ET

If you did nothing but read message boards you'd swear UGA was attempting to win it's third national title in a row. Georgia has done nothing yet. All the hype is based off of what? You guys didn't even win your divison last year. Now your coach is crying about ESPN not showing the correct highlights from your impressive win over Central Michigan High School. Give me a break. Win some real games and then start thumping your chest. As for this kid. Who cares? Both Bama and UGA are set at WR. He grew up a UGA fan.. if that's where he wants to go so be it.... can't blame him for that. If UGA doesn't have enough schollys this year and we can steal him so be it. Roll Tide!!

September 8, 2008  06:26 PM ET

this worked out well for alabama last year when they DID have the #1 recruiting class on signing day but then had kids not qualify academically and dropped. Deja Vu anyone?

September 8, 2008  07:02 PM ET

There is another reason to pick Ala over Georgia. He can hang out with those "classy" fans that thow bottles at the other team when they lose. Like last year when we beat Ala in over time...Anyone remember that? Real class their Ala. fans...Your team played their hearts out and a bunch of drunks do something like that. Class all the way.
Go Dawgs!

September 8, 2008  07:55 PM ET

Like you said BR549, "a bunch of drunks." They're called frat guys, and they fill up the South endzone that your team was piled up in. Don't lump all Alabama fans together. It's not as if there's no such thing as a classless UGA fan.
