Reebok shuts down Ocho Cinco

Chad Ocho Cinco took the field for warm-ups Sunday with his new last name across the top of the back of the jersey. When he re-appeared for the start of the game, his jersey read C. Johnson again. Though the NFL and the Bengals officially last week recognized Johnson's legal name change to Chad Ocho Cinco, Reebok doesn't. "He has a financial obligation to Reebok, which produces the jerseys available to fans," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the Associated Press Sunday. "That has to be resolved before the on-field jersey can be changed. The same obligation exists for any player that changes his number or name." After the game, a 17-10 loss by the Bengals to the Ravens, in which Johnson had just once reception, he was not concerned about the jersey. "I ain't worried about the name, man," he said at his locker. "We just lost the game."

Always about money..

September 8, 2008  07:39 AM ET

Not much to say about it. That I haven't already. TJ said it best, "the offense sucks."

September 8, 2008  07:52 AM ET

As bad as the Bengals looked yesterday who REALLY gives a dayum........

September 8, 2008  07:57 AM ET

Obviously, not someone from North/South Carolina. But we felt that way about the Panthers here, last season.

September 8, 2008  08:42 AM ET

Ocho Cinco was Ocho Blanko. He needs to shut up the whole season and not make a scene.

September 8, 2008  08:50 AM ET

if you read the whole artical, the cinci enquirer already started a poll
"is the season already over?"
2500 people feel they will win 6 or less games
only 280 feel they will win more than 6.
its only 1 week into the season, they lose a game on the road,
and their fan base has already given up on them. WOW

"its only 1 week into the season, they lose a game on the road,
and their fan base has already given up on them. WOW"

just takes cache clear + reload to vote multiple times or a script. so don't take that poll as scientific fact. more of an indicator.

but if you are asking where did all the fan's go that thought the bengals were going to the playoffs this season, there weren't many of them to begin with. this didn't start after 1 loss. this started long time back, around the draft. didn't help with the release of 3 former pro-bowlers in pre-season. and the lack of fixing the center issue or replacing the lost fb, has only left a lingering concern.

Good for Reebok for putting this fool in his place!

September 8, 2008  10:14 AM ET

He seems to have forgotten what he was there for, and it isn't self promotion. Hope he doesn't hurt the team too badly.

September 8, 2008  10:16 AM ET

Reebok - produce the Ocho Cinco jersey. People that aren't even Bengals fans will buy it!!

September 8, 2008  10:17 AM ET

Amazing how much finances and outside companies dictate exactly what players can and cannot do. Lighten up Rebok and get with the program.

September 8, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Cant really blame him.... i mean you can find an update on his name change everywhere. If the media keeps reporting on every little thing he does, he will keep doing it......

September 8, 2008  11:39 AM ET

maybe he should worry more about his performance on the field after yesterdays debacle!!!

September 8, 2008  12:12 PM ET

nike would never do that

September 8, 2008  12:48 PM ET

Every one is Shutting him up!!!
What a season Chad Johnson, Ocho Stinko!!

September 8, 2008  01:22 PM ET

Maybe someone should make him see a shrink

September 8, 2008  01:57 PM ET

Whatever Chad

September 8, 2008  02:37 PM ET

Honestly, its a bad marketing for Reebok, many more people would want to buy an Ocho Cinco jersey, than C. Johnson.. and that's the truth, why because Ocho Cinco is original... do you know how many Johnson's are out there..

September 8, 2008  04:31 PM ET

Here's the best part of this idiots story. His name is now Chad "Eight Five", not 85.

In Spanish 85 is ochenta y cinco...

What a moron...
