Kitna has words with Lions coaches

Lions quarterback Jon Kitna had heated words with some coaches on the sideline Sunday. Facing a 21-0 deficit in the second quarter, the Lions called a couple of time-outs as they drove for their first touchdown. Kitna came to the sideline visibly upset about something. But things seemed to be smoothed over during the second time-out, with receivers coach Shawn Jefferson rubbing the top of Kitna's head. "That's how game days are," Kitna said. "I probably shouldn't have done that on the field. But you know, it's an emotional game and a critical point in the game, and I probably should have dealt with that in a different manner. I think that was my fault there." Coach Rod Marinelli was not concerned.

When you're right, you're right CD. I wonder how many Falcon fans are still calling for the return of Michael Vick?

September 8, 2008  08:41 AM ET

Kitna should just shut up. He is over rated and thinks he could play the game. He has not proven anything just like the Harringtons and the Carrs and the Culpeppers.

September 8, 2008  09:03 AM ET

Hey, at least someone on the Lions look like they care about winning...

September 8, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Fire Millen.

September 8, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Ryan looked really good out there. He was even more impressive than Flacco. Turner also looked to be a good investment. Looks like the NFC south might start to get competitive once more.

Everyone settle down about the Falcons...they played an EQUALLY terrible team in the Detroit Lions...

Guam Baller | 09/08/08, 08:41 AM

Actually Kitna has done far more than Harrington or Carr. He actually has won his team multiple games and racked up passing yards and touchdowns.

Culpepper is a tragic story of a talented player who's career took a huge slide downward.

September 8, 2008  10:31 AM ET

Maybe he should just get use to the loser mentality in Detroit.

September 8, 2008  10:51 AM ET

All the Lions have are lame slogans, Tampa Bay rejects, a High School coach and the single worst executive in the history of sports. That shouldn???t be too much to overcome. Once again they have allowed a no name to set records against them. I am so sick of pounding the rock. The time has come for the Fords to get rid of these CFL caliber masterminds and hire Bill Cowher to run the show. Unlike Millen and his minions he actually knows what he is doing. If not for Packer fans this week's game will be blacked out in Detroit. Thanks a lot cheeseheads, now we have to watch this garbage product.

September 8, 2008  11:07 AM ET

it goes without saying but i will anyhow the preseason is worthless

September 8, 2008  12:40 PM ET

To these dum ****-ks that tell Kitna to shut his mouth. Why don't you go out and practice catching bullets with your teeth. It's not Kitna's fault it's the management like it's been for the past 50 years. The management ran Barry Sanders out and the only thing the Lions know how to do things is by running the Lions inti the ground. NOW we have a QB with a backbone and tells the coachs and management to get their act together.

September 8, 2008  01:15 PM ET

He was upset because he wanted one of those foam "Number 1" fingers. But, he settled for a Matt Millen bobblehead!

September 8, 2008  01:17 PM ET

The ONLY thing in life you can be sure of is that the Lions will suck

Oso's back-Sort of | 09/08/08, 10:16 AM

I have not seen anything on Culpepper that suggests he was any good. Remember the Randy Ratio? That existed because increased coverage to moss doesn't severely detract from his success and it means much less coverage elsewhere. Subsequently a complete slob can throw the ball to Randy or anyone else on the field. Did you see Cassel? He looked good. There was tons of speculation he was getting slashed at the last roster cut and he looked real nice throwing it to Moss. It's no shock that the second Moss leaves the building Culpepper is a bum.

Kitna sure gets more stories on FN than you would expect...

September 8, 2008  03:44 PM ET

Well Lions fans here we go again another hopeless season with a lousy quaterback. Kitna has gotta be the 2nd worst quaterback ever and we all know who the worst was. What a wimp one more step and we gotta first down, but no..Its almost like this guy is nearsighted and forgot to put in his contacts. Then, Instead of running five yards of wide open field and scoring, this guy throws a duck thats no were near being catchable. Then he throws an interception and the nearest lions is 10 yards away.Come on, Its just makes me sick. Here is the lions gameplan every week and everybody knows it. 1st down run it up the middle..2nd down run it up the middle..3rd down pass 2 yards short of the first down marker..4th down punt. the lions have become the laughing stock of the nfl. It makes me sick to watch them and ashamed to live in Michigan.

Kitna tends to open his mouth a little too much.Shut up and play football or whatever that is they pretend to play at Ford Field. And to say that the Falcons played an EQUALLY terrible team is not accurate I watched the whole game and there was nothing equal about it.The Lions are
