Weis on 'ugly' Irish victory
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said he saw more positives than negatives after reviewing film of what he again called an ''ugly'' 21-13 victory over San Diego State on Saturday. ''When I get in front of the team, I'll have a whole list of pros and a whole list of cons,'' Weis said Sunday. ''The cons represent the ugly part. But to be honest with you, I actually have a lot more things on the pro page than the con page. But there's plenty of both.'' One bright spot was quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who completed nine of 10 passes for 100 yards during two fourth-quarter scoring drives. The play that impressed Weis most, however, was a 22-yard pass to freshman Michael Floyd late in the second quarter. ''Go watch Floyd's touchdown,'' Weis said when asked if he saw examples of Clausen's maturity. ''He audibles, and instead of sending him on a comeback, he tells him to run a go and throws a fade for the touchdown. It doesn't get any better than that.''

Charlie I would take wins regardless of how they look, cuz they will be minimal again this season.

A win's a win. It would have been nice if they beat down on San Diego State but at least they are 1-0.

Charlie should shut up. For a team that won only 4 times last year, they should take them all, ugly or not.... (notice not one mention of Weis' weight in there by the way)

Wow. If not for the questionable turnover on the goal line when SDSU was scoring, the score wouldve been 20-6. If Weis is ok with that kind of play (more pros than cons), it is going to be a long season for ND. 7 loses for sure! Willingham sure is looking good now isnt he? A whole lot cheaper too!

So, I guess if Cal Poly would have played ND, it would have been 21-15? HAHA. If San Diego State doesnt fumble it away at the Goal Line, ND is 0-1 right now. Weis is not a good head coach and ND looked lousy.
Michigan is going to stroke em!

I hope Michigan beats them but Michigan hasn't looked so good either.
This could be a close but ugly game this Saturday.

Is Charlie's picture some kind of metaphor for what he thinks about the aesthetics of the game? Yeesh.
That win - against a truly feeble team AT HOME - was no statement by the Irish, who are obviously still struggling. The MICH-ND game is shaping up as the "game of the weak."

Can't wait for the "who sucks less" bowl next Saturday between Michigan and Notre Dame!

Robert Huges fumble was a bad call, he was down. The O-Line cannot block, ND only was able to win because they stopped trying to run and Clausen started throwing it.
ND should hire Skip Holtz for head coach.

I don't think USC/Ohio St. is exactly going to be the stuff of legend either

it's stupid people like CFFan that make me laugh. Willingham will be fired by seasons end at Wash, and ND was terrible because of Willinghams lack of recruiting. Look it up!

jkmann24 - Oh shut up! Enough with passing the blame on Willingham! This is Weis' 4th season and 3 years of "highly' ranked recruiting! These are Charlies guys!

Uh oh, here come the "blame Willingham" chants again. What year are we in the Weis regime? Anyone notice what Rick Neuheisel did out at UCLA with practically zero talent? Anyone notice what Pete Carroll did at USC in his second and third years with someone else's recruits? What's going on down in East Carolina, with Skip Holtz turning a small program into a giant killer using someone else's recruits? Good coaches find ways to win with the players they have. Good coaches find freshmen who can immediately contribute. Face it, Irish fans, Weis is not a good coach. Indeed, his sole winning season was with Willingham's recruits! My guess is that Skip Holtz will be Notre Dame's coach next year.

Weis and Clausen embarrassed themselves at the end of the game when they stumbled through that short television interview. If you saw it - enough said. If you didn't - it made them both look weak. Weis also looked lost. Clausen also looked like he was full of himself. Give those two some training.
