Did Young quit on Titans?

The Titans probably will have to wait to see Vince Young on the field again, although exactly how long isn't certain. An MRI on his left knee had to be postponed until today, the team said Monday. Early indications were that Young suffered some damage to his medial collateral ligament, an injury that could sideline him two to four weeks. Coach Jeff Fisher spoke as much Monday about Young's maturity issues as his injury. The quarterback appeared reluctant to re-enter the game after throwing a second interception and being booed by the home crowd. He sat on the bench alone at one point and brushed off teammates and coaches attempting to console him. When he went back in, he suffered the knee injury a few plays later. "He definitely needs to work through some things, there is no doubt about that,'' Fisher said. "This is not the first time he has been frustrated or he has shown frustration outwardly on the sideline. But he tends to bounce back. He is very competitive. He has a tremendous sense of pride and he doesn't like to make mistakes. ??? I don't necessarily want to see the other side of it, where you have this false chatter and false enthusiasm on the sideline either.''

the shirt less video, him tatooing his name across his back like a jersey, temper tamtrums on the side lines, what is it with these Longhorn guys? What will he do next hold his breath on the side lines till he gets his way?

He's a very emotional competitor, I'm sure it hard to go from Texas where he made a name for himself and is god over there to the NFL where he's having a hard time adjusting. Regardless of his numbers he a great Quarterback on 3rd down's when it counts.

I agree Hank. He doens't have the mechanics or fundamentals for the NFL...but he is a born winner and competitor.

They are a better team with Collins. My opinion.

September 9, 2008  06:15 AM ET

As far as backups go, 50 yearfan, I agree with you that Collins is certainly one of the more solid ones in the league. There is certainly no reason for them to go into panic mode.

I just do not see where the guy is better than he was his first year, and there was a lot that needed improving. 22 td vs. 32 ints. from a guy who is not a high percentage passer. His maturity level is questionable. Maybe he started before he was ready. They win with him, not because of him.

what a baby. my brother just studied abroad in spain and randomly ran into tank johnson and vince young in barcalona. he said vince was getting wasted, gettin high constantly. seems like he likes the celebrity part more than the game part.

September 9, 2008  07:32 AM ET

Gee, another quarterback that was labeled the ???next big thing that will change the game forever??? is falling flat on his *ss again, what a surprise. He will lose the Titans more games because of his head than he will win with his feet or arm.

September 9, 2008  08:03 AM ET

I think the Titan make a huge mistake by drafting Young. They had a great think with McNair and had a good solid successor with Volek. I also think the reason the Titan can't get any good recievers is because of Young who want to play for a team that the QB doesn't throw the ball. Heres hoping the Titans see the mistake and fix it.

hey wanted to retire last year..that shows he's already quit on the team..can someone tell me what this management group in tennessee has done right? first pacman jones..now this crybaby?

September 9, 2008  08:12 AM ET

ESPN kind of hinted that the coach had to "cajole" him to go back in. Makes you wonder.....

Wrong, he never said he wanted to quit, he pondered retirement when he was struggling from injury. However, Young now says that he never planed to retire prematurely.

September 9, 2008  08:26 AM ET

Vince Young has "potential". But he doesn't seem to get the mental aspect of the game.

September 9, 2008  08:31 AM ET

Man, this guy did not learn the last 3 years he was playing pro. He should have put the extra effort to learn how to read plays and pass better. The guy can run for his life but he can't throw. That was his major weakness and he did not work on it. You want to prolong your career and get better then you've got to learn to stay upright, pass, and throw the ball away when there is nothing there even though you're tempted to run.

September 9, 2008  08:33 AM ET

He can't read a defense to save his life. He has spoken about retiring early from football in the past, which drew him criticism from those questioning his love for the game, so, yeah, I believe this guy may have quit in a sulking fit. He is never going to be a star in the NFL.. too many shortcomings. His best asset are his legs, and unfortunately, qbs who run too much always get dinged up and retire early..defenses are just too fast and powerful, they will get you sooner or later.

Vince Young is teetering closer to being like a Mike Vick, if you ask me. Both had tremendous talent and made some Sportscenter highlights, but neither could live up to their playmaking ability from college. While Vince isn't breeding killer dogs yet, they have more in common than not.

September 9, 2008  08:47 AM ET

Vince Young is still only 25. And this is a new offensive coordinator. Give him a chance this year. This is a "make or break" year I would say though.
