Blazers lose Frye until November

Trail Blazers forward Channing Frye will be out of action until at least November after he had surgery on Monday to remove bone spurs from his left ankle. The arthroscopic surgery was performed in Southern California, and the team said he is expected to miss 8-to-10 weeks. That would place his return early in November, when the season is one-to-two weeks old. Frye was in the best shape of his career this summer, and was the most frequent participant at the team's practice facility over the off season. A big man who can shoot, Frye was expected to enter training camp as the backup power forward to LaMarcus Aldridge, a valuable piece to a second unit that expects to spread the floor and play uptempo. Frye spent much of the summer trimming his frame and working on his three-point shooting.

They need him but can still compete.. backup.

Not much of a lost when you get back Greg Oden. He might miss only 2 weeks of regular season games so that is not bad.

It's called WORK. Somehow player development just doesn't happen with the Knicks. Maybe if they unload Eddy Curry, he too can be something.

Blazers will be fine since they can easily slide Travis Outlaw to the 4 to cover for Frye off the bench while Frye is recovering. They won't skip a beat.

Is it Oct yet???

The only thing that stops this team from going to the playoffs are injuries.

September 9, 2008  05:28 PM ET

I don't see this as hurting the Blazers that much...I still think they will win 50 games (or more) with or without him
