Three teams interested in Simms

The quarterback hunt is on for the Patriots, who are staring at a season without quarterback Tom Brady in the face. The team, which likely lost Brady for the season to a serious left knee injury suffered in yesterday's 17-10 season-opening win over the Chiefs, is scheduled to bring in free agent Chris Simms today for a physical and workout. Simms, the son of former Giants QB Phil Simms, whom Patriots coach Bill Belichick is familiar with from his days as Giants defensive coordinator, was cut by the Buccaneers Aug. 30. A league source confirmed the visit and said the Chiefs, whose starter, Brodie Croyle, sustained a shoulder injury against the Patriots, and the Titans, who had Vince Young on crutches after he sprained his left knee in the Titans' 17-10 win over the Jaguars, also are interested in Simms.

Someone should tell the Globe that Pats fans were calling Simms "pathetic" and a "warm body' and I will not mention the profanity in some of the blogs. They were complemented by the consummate professionalism of the Patriot organization who, after immediately calling Chris and another candidate in after TB's injury, changed their plans. Then, without any face saving moves, both were given the bum's rush back out of town. I hope Chris or Pennington leads somebody to the SB. And having those NE fans watch would be.....priceless.

Simms is the big man on campus right now!

September 9, 2008  08:36 AM ET

Simms is overrated. There is a reason why he is not playing right now. He could have played for the Cowboys but he did not even have a chance. Brooks Bolinger took his spot as back up for the Cowboys.

The Patsies ought to bring Steve Grogan out of retirement.

Insane Hussein - it doesn't matter because Brady is gone. The "What Goes Around" has finally "come around" lol.

Cowboys-Jets, Super Bowl. Cowboys win 38-14.

Dante shouldn't have retired, bonehead!

Let's just hope you guys don't have to eat those words..............wouldn't that be karma.......Pats make playoffs even without Brady.......and go far....lol

Simms will fall somewhere but will continue the trend of so-so QB's that the NFL has become. Many of us spoiled during the 80's and 90's with a slew of HOF QB's now we get to watch the likes of Kitna,Tavaris Jackson, and Vince Young stink up the place.

What about Culpepper? He certainly knows Randy Moss and his routes.

Vote of confidence in Cassel or they have someone else sewn up?

September 9, 2008  12:57 PM ET

Rest assured the Patriots are not interested in Simms - end of story !!!

September 9, 2008  01:53 PM ET

Simms will not be a QB anymore. He had his chance in TB and he blew it. Chuckie put Simms ahead of the other 1 million QB that they had and he did not produce.

September 9, 2008  02:19 PM ET

just think if farve hadnt unretired he would be starting for NE this week

September 9, 2008  03:40 PM ET

Not so fast Lallybone. Brett may retire and unretire again. He's got to be kicking himself.

You heard wrong, but don't let that keep you from repeating it.

Probably the absolutely stupidest comments I've read in a long time. Simms nearly died PRODUCING for Tampa. Diving for a frigging touchdown.
