Mom: Vince Young 'hurting inside and out'

Felicia Young has seen her son experience the ups and downs that go with being a football star. On Monday night, she saw 25-year-old Vince Young sink to his lowest point. It ended with Coach Jeff Fisher calling Metro police to search for her son for over four hours, and opened the biggest window yet into the emotional and troubled side of the Titans quarterback. A psychologist was among those who met with Young at his Brentwood home on Monday, and what she concluded and told team officials led to a bizarre, 24-hour period that ended just after midnight Monday. That's when Fisher met with Young and police at Baptist Sports Park. Felicia Young said her son has grown weary of all the negativity he faces as an NFL star. On Monday, he indicated to those around him he didn't want to play football any more. When the frantic search for Young ended, Fisher and the Titans said the incident had been blown out of proportion. So did some of Young's friends and family. But the events that led up to it all -- and the fact Fisher called police -- showed just how much concern the team has regarding the mental state of Young, who suffered a left knee injury in Sunday's season-opening victory over the Jaguars. Young opted not to get an MRI of the knee on Monday; an MRI on Tuesday revealed he has a sprained MCL that could keep him out two to four weeks.

If this guy comes back, can you imagine the trash talk he'll be hearing from opposing players? His mother says her baby needs more love?!

September 10, 2008  02:29 PM ET

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real

September 10, 2008  02:39 PM ET

You would be hurting inside & out too if you finally realized you have no future in the league.

September 10, 2008  02:39 PM ET

He sux and he's done

September 10, 2008  02:43 PM ET

Perhaps V should give the Titans back all the millions they've invested in him and choose some other line of work. I'll bet mama would shut up and tell Vince to act like a man if they got kicked off the gravytrain.

After the stunt he pulled on the sideline in Sunday's game it's obvious he has zero leadership skills. Unless he issues a full apology to the team he's done.

Sounds like manic depression. If he gets onto the right medicine and some therapy, he should feel much better.

September 10, 2008  02:50 PM ET

Sucks for the Titans. Man don't the Texans look that much smarter for taking Mario Williams too. Did that Wonderlic score of 12 include emotional category? Sorry Vince, the refs in the NFL can't give you victories like the college ones did. Too bad the QB position usually sets a franchise back quite a few years too.

September 10, 2008  03:03 PM ET

sounds like little Vincy just needs to be coddled by his momma

September 10, 2008  03:10 PM ET

The last thing you want Vince, even more than having the whole stadium boo your performance, is to have your mother start "protecting" you from the ruthless booers. Grow up! Your getting millions! People can boo me all they want for that kind of money. Hell, they boo me now, and I get nothing in return for it. But I aint gonna have my momma fight for me.

September 10, 2008  03:48 PM ET

hes a great athlete
and a horrible QB

just like vick.

but i guess i understand him, seeing everyone that played for a texas team is extremely emotional....

September 10, 2008  04:28 PM ET

The hype would eventually die away from Young and he would eventually have to produce, and he is failing in that regard. The guy probalby had a lot of love for the game back when he was the big fish in the small pond. It's looking like he doesn't have what it takes to put in the effort to raise his game to the level of his talent. Wasted pick. Titans need to start preparing a backup plan this upcoming draft because he could end up a bust.

September 10, 2008  04:28 PM ET

Really embarrasing, that your starting QB, the face of your franchise, has his mommy talking for him now.....My baby hurtin' now..L.O.L !

I guess he only expected truck loads of cash to come without any accountability or necessity to maintain an adult demeanor...Just another big time waste of money on a QB that will never amount to squat.

September 10, 2008  04:31 PM ET

Typical run first QB's....they are all selfish and suck

September 10, 2008  04:34 PM ET

Pay me that kind of money to play a game and I'll stand naked on the 50 yard line and let them ridicule my pale white a**. Throw rotten eggs and tomatos too.

September 10, 2008  04:34 PM ET

I think the league should NOT allow Rookie QBs to start...Would Quinn be suffering the same fate? I think they reap benefits sitting on the bench a while so they can "get it". These first year starters are so overwhelmed they do what we all do when in trouble......"run... run forest run....."!!

September 10, 2008  05:18 PM ET

Yeah, it sounds like he has more going on upstairs than just being down on himself for his play......he probably needs some professional help......

September 10, 2008  05:18 PM ET

Put me in coach. I can stink as much as Vince for that kind of money. Wah, wah, wah, poor Vincey-pooh had his wittle feelings hurt. Next...

September 10, 2008  05:23 PM ET

His mammie has ruined what little was left of his dignity. the only thing worse than a run-first QB is a run-first QB who is a momma's boy!

September 10, 2008  05:34 PM ET

this dude takes the cake...we all knew that there was something wrong with him long ago( wonder link) i think that what they call it...anyway..he tested at the lowest level possible other than just balling it up and tossing it...he's basically retarded...further more..we all knew that he couldnt throw a crossing pass or anything that needs timing because he never did it !!...heck ..even guys like leinart struggle in thew NFL...and he played in a pro style offense and mastered the position at the collegiate level....vince young is a fraud...always was...come on...he doesnt want to go back in the game because the fans booed him?...this dude had to be talked out of quitting during the game??..I dont feel sorry for him...we have a name for that where I come from...b---h...please
