Wie finally taking right path

To try to earn her 2009 LPGA Tour card, Michelle Wie has entered the first stage of tour qualifying next week at Mission Hills Country Club. Score this as a first step in the direction Wie should have been following all along. Now, qualifying school is a daunting golf experience, regardless of your pedigree or your ability to get the ball in the hole, but maybe it'll be easier than that for Wie. She should at least have a few good memories about the course because it's where she played in the last group on Sunday at the Kraft Nabisco Championship . . . as an eighth-grader. At the same time, there are no guarantees in qualifying school, not even for someone as talented as Wie. But for the first time in a while, she's made a decision that's not messing up her career path.

The title of the article is misleading. She has no choice but to go to Q school! She didn't earn enough money on the LPGA tour because she was too busy failing to compete with the men and she has no exemptions. She didn't make the decision, it was made for her because of all her failures.

It's about time the overhyped fool began earning her way. Now we'll get to see if she really has what it takes to play with the big girls. If she can't earn her card she doesn't belong or deserve to be on the LPGA tour.

I agree with MrMiyagiJr's and Dapper Dave's comments about Wie finally having to earn her way. Whether she was force to or not, this is the route that she should have taken all along. She should have concentrated all of her efforts on obtaining her card instead of playing in men's tournaments where any earnings are not going to count towards the womens.

this is stupid, doing the wrong thing?

in 2006 she was Forbes highest earning Female athlete, Mannika was not even on the list, so how has she been doing the wrong thing?

She hits her knees every night and prays to her lord/savior/sugardaddy Phil Knight of Nike.

I actually think that Michelle has been pretty smart. By competing against the men, she has had an opportunity to observe golf at the highest level. So she begins her LPGA career at 19 with some good experiences and some bad experiences but she's smart as well as talented and will learn from all of it. Face it, the LPGA needs her desperately.

Man, her cheeks just look so soft. It drives me crazy!!!!!

September 10, 2008  07:44 PM ET

You guys are rare idiots. She has made more money in 3 years than she can ever spend. More money than any of us will ever make. I hope she does well. It's just a game , it's not war!

did Kwami Brown make the wrong decision to turn pro after high school. NO.
Better to learn you don't have game while getting paid, than finding out as an amature.
