If the Lakers founder next season, Kobe Bryant might be traded next summer. He has the chance to void the remainder of his contract in 2009, and the Lakers would not want to lose him for nothing. For now, they will try to build around their nine-time All-Star.

If Jermaine Oneal comes to LA they would make a great pair, if he doesnt then Kobe should leave. How long must Kobe carry an entire organization? Sign new people!

June 15, 2007  09:45 AM ET

Kobe should wait for next season, void the remainder of his contract and sign on with the SPURS for the minimum. He already has the money, he just wants more rings. Put Kobe, Duncan, Parker in starting line up and Ginobili coming off the bench, he would win another 3 in a row!!

June 15, 2007  10:23 AM ET

Too easy... he wouldn't do that yet. He still has plenty of years left and with his ego he will want to do it leading the team, not being a role player.

June 15, 2007  10:24 AM ET

Hey Stryka,

They never should have traded Shaq O'Neal in the first place. O'Neal is the reason why Kobe got 3 rings in the first place.
He wanted a team for himself, now he has to live with the consequences.
He thinks he's so damn important, well he's not.

End of story

June 15, 2007  10:26 AM ET

Kobe will never be a role player........no matter where he goes! I agree with voiding the contract after next year and signing with a team needing that final piece to the puzzle!

June 15, 2007  10:28 AM ET

I think Kobe should go! He's growing a head out of his back! He will not be able to play at his normal level with it there, so this is the last chance for the Lakers to get any real value for him.

June 15, 2007  10:36 AM ET

Another Non-Story, or Re-Hash that has been discussed over and over,.. 100 times now...

Let the Kobe haters and those that slobber over the possibility of having him on their team, have these sloppy seconds...

June 15, 2007  10:45 AM ET

MAKE KOBE A KNICK!!!!!!

June 15, 2007  10:52 AM ET

Kobe is still going to be a LAKER!

June 15, 2007  11:07 AM ET

it doesnt take john madden to know that kobe doesnt want to play for the lakers, but their not going to let him go. they might as well trade him now while is value is so high and you can get a lot of young players and pieces. i bet anybody that if they got at least 3 solid players for kobe they would be better than they are now.

June 15, 2007  11:07 AM ET

Kobe needs to keep his mouth shut and hope that the Lakers put some help around the best player in the league. I am a Kobe fan but only on the court not off, he has been given some god given talent, just hopes he keeps the off the court stuff behind him..

June 15, 2007  11:32 AM ET

Well, the whole rumors about Kobe and everything is that all these issues points to the GM and the Owner. I like Kobe as a Basketball player and I can understand his frustrations. Everything has to do with the GM and the Owner. They did not acquire good players during the free agency and the GM has three years to get those pieces together. The GM Dropped the ball and so did the Owner. Well, I just hope the Lakers can get Billups, Artest, or Gasol. I still think that Oneal and Odom are both equal value. The Lakers finally opened their eyes that they should not include Bynum in the trade. Again, Murphy is a salary cap casualties for any team and he does not deserve that money that he is being paid. He only plays when he wants too, soft in defense, and sure he can shoot. But other than that, give Bryant the pieces he needs to win another NBA Championship and he wants to win so badly.

June 15, 2007  11:33 AM ET

Kobe, JO, L Odom, Bynum, insert guard, is a championship contender,

Kobo Jo, and just Odom or Bynum is not.

I think the trade isn't worth it honestly. They are only going to get a little better than they are now if they make the trade.

June 15, 2007  11:34 AM ET

The trade for JO that is.

June 15, 2007  11:37 AM ET

LAKERS are dumb...and need to realized KOBE is what they got, and he is the one to build around...he still has a good 4-5 years to play at a high level. LAKERS need to wake up and make changes. KOBE is not the problem, its the LAKERS management.

June 15, 2007  11:56 AM ET

This situation reminds me of A-Rod when he was with the Rangers....the outcome of that (atleast for the first year after the trade) was that the Rangers got several solid players and were a better overall team....perhaps the Lakers can do the same, although without Kobe they wont have the draw they do now and I think that is a concern for them as well...$$$$$$

June 15, 2007  12:20 PM ET

Keep KOBE get some new hungry blood and let Jackson work his magic!

June 15, 2007  12:28 PM ET

I've never cared for any basketball team other than the Lakers, and I absolutely love Kobe! However, I remember every time one of my girlfriends said "it was over"...IT WAS OVER!!! Remember when Kobe came into the league? Remember Shaq giggling when Kobe tossed up air balls (due to his inexperience)?

Big men are important in the NBA, e.g. Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O???Neal, etc. Two of which brought championships to L.A. I think L.A. should work on creating a Shaq-esque center in Bynum.

Why live with the threat of KB24 leaving if we don't acquire more talent to compliment him? Are we to expect great talent to sign for less than they're worth? Doesn't Kobe's paycheck put a stranglehold on the Lakers for acquiring big names? Maybe Bryant should give up some cash to make way for more personnel. Magic did it to acquire Terry Teagle from Seattle in an attempt to grab another NBA title.

If Kobe never wins another championship or leaves after restructuring the team, what did he or the Lakers gain? As difficult as it is to say this, let Kobe go and move on.

June 15, 2007  01:20 PM ET

Dr. Jerry Buss is a complete idiot. He broke the dynasty letting phil go and by trading the most dominant player to ever play the game. Now We have Buss possibly looking to Kobe and isiah Looking to add another sg to the knicks line up. These are two men who dont know how to run there teams i cant wait to see this trade pan out.

June 15, 2007  01:28 PM ET

KOBE is the Lakers! Letting him go will take the Lakers down for many years.

holla
