Schilling rips Jets fans

It's a shame Curt Schilling's contract incentives are based on the pitches he throws on the mound instead of the nonsense that comes out of his mouth. The loudmouth Red Sox starter, who is sidelined for the entire 2008 season following shoulder surgery, sounded off on New York's sports fans for reveling in the fact Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will miss the entire season. "The euphoria in New York is palpable," Schilling told WEEI Radio in Boston. "The Yankees suck this year and they are bitter and mad and making excuses over that. Now they got Tom going down so New York's excited. It's unfortunate, but when you crawl to the top of the pile you will have people trying to knock you down." Not quite the top - Schilling apparently forgot the Giants own the Lombardi Trophy after beating Brady and the Patriots in last year's Super Bowl. After blasting New York fans for being enthused over Brady's injury, Schilling took the time to remind Pinstriped loyalists he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks when they beat the Yankees in the 2001 World Series. "I was front row and center when their 'dynasty' ended," Schilling said.

I just wish Schilling would learn when to keep his mouth shut. He has had no relevance in his own sport in 2008, so he has absolutely no place to be sounding off about any other sport.

September 10, 2008  02:39 PM ET

He gets bashed in the baseball threads and in the football threads now. He is a two sport jerk.

September 10, 2008  02:40 PM ET

Yeah, well, Schilling is still fat, old, ugly and injured.

September 10, 2008  02:41 PM ET

and when the yanks blew it in 04 as well

September 10, 2008  03:06 PM ET

hey moron - I lived in Boston for 4 years (the worst 20 years of my life!) - tell loudmouth that: 1) a team name the Giants kicked the Patriots posterior in the Super Bowl and for 50 years of my life the Yankees kicked the Sawx buts - so the Sawx win a couple and Schilling suddenly thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread??? talk to me when you have even a 10 year dynasty loudmouth (thou dost protesteth a little too much)... oh yeah, one more thing - how did you guys do against the '86 Mets?

Why is this even news? Schilling has no credibility talking about the NFL. And I doubt the Patriots crawled to the top of the pile. They took it and owned it. The only thing he said that is true this year is that the Yankees suck.
