Zambrano leaning toward Cardinals?

Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano motioned to reporters standing around the clubhouse and pointed to a box that contained a pair of red shinguards. "It's a gift from my next catcher, Yadier," Zambrano said. Zambrano was referring to St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina, although he didn't specify whether he was going to St. Louis or Molina was coming to the Cubs.

That would be a huge pick-up by the Red Birds.

June 15, 2007  09:27 AM ET

The Cardinals are paying for him. And there is no way he is gonna get traded.

June 15, 2007  09:29 AM ET

I meant to say the Cardinals are NOT paying for him.

June 15, 2007  09:32 AM ET

Yea they wont pay. This is just a weird story. He probably said it in jest.

June 15, 2007  09:44 AM ET

lets face it, the mets are going to be the highest bidder, with the yanks making a serious run. yanks probably waiting to give $200 M for santana. cards, no way.

June 15, 2007  09:46 AM ET

I don't see why the Cubs would even think about letting Zambrano go somewhere else when they've pretty much made up the fact that he is their franchise pitcher.

June 15, 2007  10:07 AM ET

He will not be a Cub next year. I can see him with the Red Sox.

June 15, 2007  10:25 AM ET

The Cardinals would not cast off Yadier Molina -- he's a superb defensive catcher, and he's improving with his bat. I'm sure the Cards would have interest in Carlos Zambrano, but I think his price would be too rich.

June 15, 2007  10:30 AM ET

If the Cubs don't resign him, they will trade him away by the deadline. They WILL NOT trade him to their biggest rival. That makes no sense what-so-ever!

June 15, 2007  11:21 AM ET

I agree with Piranha_51. If they dont resign him, which they better or i will be pissed, they will not trade him to the sucking cards

June 15, 2007  11:31 AM ET

I would like to see Zambrano on the South Side. What a combo: Ozzie & Big Z. Worth the price of admission.

June 15, 2007  11:48 AM ET

Zambrano has been one of the largest busts of the year in my opinion. I mean the guys self predicts that he'll win the Cy Young, comes out and lays an egg, and then proceeds to become a club house cancer even fighting his own catcher during a game... Bye Carlos, you'll be forgotten before the next game.

June 15, 2007  12:08 PM ET

Cards win you are a stupid **** idiot, Zambrano is from Velenzuela you stupid ****. I bet your parents gave you everything you ever had you****, you never worked a hard days work you **** ****.

June 15, 2007  12:40 PM ET

Everyone can talk about Zambrano in a negative light....but this guy is a winner. This is DEFINITELY someone I would want on my squad. Someone who actually cares about winning, and NOT just a paycheck. Sure he's going to get paid....but that is as a result of Barry Zito going out and getting $140 million to put up a sub par record. No one's talking about that though. Baseball is such a LONG season that he could STILL win the cy young. There is no Josh Beckett in the NL.....no John Lackey. This guy is a horse who pitches 200+ innings every year and NEVER goes on the DL. GET OFF HIS BACK!!!!!!

June 15, 2007  12:53 PM ET

Not gonna happen. The cubs just extended Zambrano's contract and are talking about releasing Barret.

June 15, 2007  12:54 PM ET

Zambrano has great potential. I don't think there's any doubt about that. But he still has years to log in before we can start dismissing his antics with, "Oh, that's just Carlos being Carlos". Until then, he needs to stop channeling the spirit of Jose Lima and just pitch.

Although, I would love to see him and Pujols duke it out in the dugout. My money's on Pujols!

June 15, 2007  01:24 PM ET

Zambrano is the best thing the cubs got and all you haters know it. Sure he put his foot in his mouth by saying he will win Cy Young but he is starting to turn it around. By the end of the season he will have the most wins on the club and remember i said it, you ****

June 15, 2007  01:28 PM ET

Even though the other 4 current starters have been a plesant surprise. Zambrano is by far the leader and best of this picthing staff.

June 15, 2007  01:43 PM ET

I take Big Z v. Pujols. Not too many people I would take over Big Z; I doubt he'd fight fair. He'd likely start kicking his opponent in the junk Golata style.

The fact remains that the Cubs set themselves up for this by paying Wood & Prior big money for no results. For years Zambrano went along with it, and now I support him in his claim that he's due. The Cubs fans stupid enough to say they shouldn't re-sign him are probably the same ones who think that they'll have the best pitching staff in baseball NEXT year once Prior & Wood come back.

zambrano should come to the yankees, but now no big names will ever want to come here again after watching new york tear a-rod apart
