Will Padres fire Bud Black?
Asked if Bud Black will return as manager in 2009, Padres GM Kevin Towers said: "We will address our entire coaching staff's situation at the completion of the 2008 season. I don't feel that it is the appropriate time with games still to be played to discuss coaches' contracts or players' contracts." In March, Alderson and Towers picked up Black's option for 2009. Several players said they expect that Black will return for 2009. But the front office's refusal to make it official might signal that it deems improvement is needed from both Black and his coaches. Pitcher Trevor Hoffman and right fielder Brian Giles said recently that Black shouldn't be blamed for the team's abysmal performance.

Amazing teams are put together by the GM and the manager is the first get fired. The Padres talent from last year was not good enough this year - look how many from that team have already been shipped out by the same GM.

What the hell is going on at fannation lately? This was a small section from a Padres notebook in the SD Union Tribune that had no quotes from anyone that were remotely close to indicating Black was to be fired. There must be a new person writing the headlines for T&Rs. This is the second ridiculous headlines in just two days. The Mets headline regarding from Rhoden's column in the NY Times was just as ridiculous. I'm worried about the future of this site.

Harry is a good guy, a players manager, but he is also part of a larger Padres problem - they settle for sub-par performances from players who know they'll get a pat on the back and an atta' boy, thanks for trying when they make an error, or hit a first pitch double-play ball after the pitcher has thrown six balls in a row - instead of getting the swift kick they deserve! Players play to the level of expectation, and SD seems to expect to fail.

The General Manager didn't have the team ready to compete this year. No offense to speak of, and an outfield that wouldn't be good at the Triple A level was a huge mistake. Give Black another two years.

Let's see Bud Black destroys a guys' knee last year and this year detroys a whole team - fire his sorry arse !!! Some guys are meant to be managers and some guys are meant to be pitching coaches of which Black is in the latter category !!!

Let's see, Mike Cameron is helping the Brewers to a potential post season, Milton Bradley had a great year with the Rangers helping them compete. Sandy Alderson moved them both out of town with the help of Bud Black's input. No doubt in my mind Wally Joyner is telling the truth recently when resigning, claiming management has an agenda. I might add, it is a "LOSING" one. Keep Kevin Towers, bring back Tim Flannery as a coach, and some players that bleed Padre blue, and have a little "fire in the belly" like Cameron and Bradley. Bring the passion back! Please...
