Mom: Larry Johnson is misunderstood

I had an interesting chat with the very delightful mother of Chiefs running back Larry Johnson on Thursday. I asked her if she thought her son's reputation as a man "mad at the world" was fair. "He's not mad at the world," Christine Johnson said. "People have thought that and I just think he's misunderstood. He's not mad. He's just guarded sometimes and he also has a great passion for football. That passion can be misunderstood. "He just has a different personality. I have one son who can make friends in an instant with total strangers. That's his personality, smiling all the time. Larry's personality is different. He kind of checks things out first."

Whats up with these mouthy NFL mothers? First Vince Young's "momma" shoots her mouth off to the media and embarrasses her son and now this? These NFL players need to get their handlers to invest in mother muzzles.

I think Oprah needs to have a football mommy show. vy and lj can make a guest appearance at the end of it...and the big ending can be McNabbs mom bringing thiem all out a big bowl of soup.....i like it.

What is this? A new way for the media to get something posted, interviewing Mothers of athletes? Great Idea - Start with the recently unable to find a team older former players mothers I am sure that will increase readership.

September 12, 2008  09:56 AM ET

When did they start making the moms spokespersons for these athletes..Its not going to change the way some people feel about them..When the moms speak,in my opinion, it makes things worse...aww, dont pick on my baby..sighs

Sorry Mrs. Johnson, your son is a fraud. He comes from a middle to upper-class family but he wants to be "street" so bad he invents this abrasive persona to try to come off as hard. Sorry Larry, I don't care how much you want to be down with Roc-A-Fella and how you idol Jay-Z, you're not street, never have been, never will be. More importantly, as a black man who grew up in the streets, why would you aspire to be that way? You're just another suburban knucklehead poser. Try not gettin hurt this season you whiner.

Concerning the Oprah cameo, you will have to nix that whole campbell soup thing. The following is a story that explains all.....

"Wilma McNabb and the other NFL moms are finished as corporate spokespeople, the Wall Street Journal reports. Campbell's Chunky Soup has launched a new distinctly mom-less advertising campaign after market research indicated that the 30-year-old men they???re targeting weren???t relying on their mothers??? food advice. Their new ad likens LaDanian Tomlinson to a working man, coming home to a hot bowl of soup. ???"LaDainian Tomlinson doesn't need his mom to tell him which products have protein and which products don't,??? said Chunky???s brand manager.

..........No wonder the mom's are sounding of about football. They are PO'd about their loss of advertising power because no one listen's to them!!

Mom's need to stay out of their son's professional business.

His mom was contacted by the writer. She didn't call him ...

Can i just say one thing? If we've got guys who have been starting at their positions and have been fairly successful and we have their own mothers complaining about them, what does that say about the player. What kind of balony is that? Look at Aaron Rodgers for God's sake! You dont see momma talking to the press about how horrible she feels about all the negativity surrounding him and all the preasure. So Vince Young cant handle the pressure sometimes, welcome to life as an NFL starting QB. If anything, from what ive seen and heard, Mrs. Rodgers is very proud of her boy as well as many Packer fans after his perfomance on Monday Night. Stop whining and play football. These are grown men for crying out loud, what? are Mrs. Young and Mrs. Johnson going to start bringing sandwiches and juice boxes for after the games? Grow up.
