Yankees GM may lose power

If Brian Cashman wants to return to the Yankees as general manager, he might not have the total power George Steinbrenner gave him in 2005 when he signed a three-year deal worth $5.4 million. "If Brian stays on as GM, that doesn't mean he won't be the No. 1 guy," Hank Steinbrenner said yesterday. "But the fact is, the more opinions the better. I think that's probably the best way. It worked in the 90's, and it can work again." Steinbrenner's thoughts could lead to Cashman, who is a candidate in Philadelphia and Seattle, leaving The Bronx. The Steinbrenners, Hal and Hank, want Cashman back, but he is reluctant to talk about a contract until the season is over. His contract expires Oct. 31. Hank seemed to take a swipe at Cashman when assessing the team's recent history.

The whole Yankee organization has lost power: the power of respect.

I'm so glad I'm not a Yankee fan. Beyond their performance, constantly hearing crap like this, from people who don't know what it is, would drive me crazy.

I wish the New York Post worked for the Phillies front office...because then and only then would I believe he was a candidate in Philly. They are going to hire one of the internal doofs for sure. If Cashman comes to Philly, I will eat a hat.

What kind of hat???

'Cause, Cashman is NOT staying with the Yankees. The Steinbrenner brats will make sure of that.

The Yankees are in a little bit of trouble. Their "stars" are aging and the farm system is not full of talent.

Come on, JR. What gives you that idea? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a young feller like Epstein in there, but I don't see how Cashman is going anywhere in 09 or 2010.

Have you been drinking again???

Maybe a yarmulka?

All I have left is to sit down and enjoy Red Sox games like the last one. Very enjoyable it was watching papelBOMB explode in the ninth inning of a huge game.

You should be able to identify with that particular feeling of loss quite strongly, dude.

Yanks still have talent but management issues and age are causing issues now that cannot be easily fixed.

Very similar. Just one is kosher.

have to eliminate Giambi, Abreu. Like them but they no longer fit do to age and contract. If they want Mussina please only a one year deal or let him walk to someone else if he wants 3 years, I would prefer to let him go, he is clearly pitching for a contract this year and will go back to sucking next year. Look at Tixera but no need to go crazy. If Andy wants to walk let him but a one year deal is not a bad idea. Enough joba in the pen get him back to starting, what is going to happen to Pavano, to afraid to even guess. How abut they put Nady in RF, explore options for a CF. Spank Robbie Cano, let IROD walk obviously. Get Posada healthy, but dont stress him at 1stb. Get Matsui back in LF, him at 1stb doesnt sound right either. Platoon Damon in the OF/DH for his last year of his contract.

JFK, you sir have said what most Yankee fans challenged at the start of the season. The "farm system" is full of pigs that wore lipstick. In other words, they farm was not nearly as good as everyone made them out to be. I wish I could find the guy who would put up blog after blog praising all these crown jewels between Hughes, Kennedy, Tabata, Jackson, etc...
