No Ichiro? Ha. Not much of a comparison between Victorino and Ichiro if you ask me.

Ichiro isn't much of a defensive player as Victorino was. Although Ichiro is the better hitter, Victorino certains should get props for his defense and his cannon of an arm.

Ichiro is not only out of Victorino's league, he's out of his galaxy! Victorino MAY be better defensively than Ichiro, and if he is, it's just barely. Certainly not enough to make up for the significantly better bat that Ichiro carries.

Ichiro is a fantastic centerfielder, but he gets overshadowed because of his offense. But the criteria here is a defensive one. Victorino is a very good one, and I trust Andruw's judgment, since he's the best defensive centerfielder since Willie Mays, and maybe the best alltime.

I can't even believe what I'm reading. Ichirio isn't as good defensively as Victorino? Ichiro's defense is better than his offense. Especially now that he's actually playing the right position.

hard call to make, since a) Victorino isn't playing much centerfield this year, mostly right field, and b) Victorino does have a really good arm, but are we forgetting the kind of rocket that Ichiro has? They both field really, really well - I'd probably say, as a Philly resident, Ichiro's defense is better, but not by a lot.

I have to agree with Aquinas. As good as a hitter Ichiro is, he's a better fielder with a cannon for an arm. I also agree with Stark that Jones is over-rated as a centerfielder. He dogs too many plays. Remember, Jones has been benched for dogging plays.

The real issue here is that Andruw Jones actually thinks he's in the top 5 centerfielders. Yeah right!

And bbech: Yeah, Andruw was benched for dogging plays...ABOUT NINE YEARS AGO. Since then he's been the best defensive centerfielder in the game. Instead of listening to Jason Stark, you should turn on the TV and watch him play yourself. He's pretty amazing. My prediction: Andruw will finish his career as the first centerfielder since Wille Mays to win 12 gold gloves.

Say what you want about his bat but as far as defense goes, there's none better.

dude vernon wells can field circles around crawford. Carl's a talent, for sure, but...count the gold gloves.
