T.O.: McNabb resented me

a subdued, reasonable Terrell Owens sounded all grown up. Almost. It's because, sometimes, T.O. just can't help himself. On the matter of his relationship with quarterback Donovan McNabb during his year-plus time as an Eagle, Owens made it clear that it has not warmed. After a conference call, during which Owens was somewhat complimentary toward McNabb, he told reporters in Dallas: "I honestly can say Donovan made me a better receiver in Philly, but I think it would be hard for him to admit that I made him a better quarterback." Then Owens suggested that McNabb resented him because he was the bigger star. Just the excitement of me coming there [Philadelphia], it became too overwhelming for Donovan," he said. "Other than that, I think at one point in time we had a good relationship. I think I got too big for Philly, too big for him. "I can remember being in that stadium, hearing them cheering my name. That couldn't bode well for Donovan to hear that. As you saw, at one point in time we were scoring touchdowns left and right. We obviously could have done some great things together, but it wasn't me letting my pride get in the way."

Let this go. It's over. Both teams have moved on. Both players have moved on. This is getting worse than Shaq-Kobe

September 12, 2008  05:27 AM ET

T.O.'s just trying to get under McNabb's skin for the big game.

September 12, 2008  05:35 AM ET

I agree this is head games.

September 12, 2008  06:33 AM ET

T.O. is still resentful of McNabb going to bat for him to getting a fat contract extension like Donovan did after the Superbowl. Also, McNabb never stated publically how valuable T.O. was, and with an ego as big as Owens has, he thinks that is silent disrespect.

Game hype!

September 12, 2008  07:06 AM ET

I didn't even know TO and McNabb have beef. I've never heard that before. I can't believe this is the first I'm hearing of this. You would have thought a story like this would have been drilled into the ground until no one would ever want to hear about it again. I guess not though because this is the first I'm hearing about these two gentlemen not getting along. Sad.

Your sarcasm is palpable.......HA!

Your kidding I'm sure. You don't really live under a rock, right? BoBo the clown has lost his juggle count count over this comment.

No. I think T.O. is mad that McNabb couldn't finish the Superbowl when T.O. was out there on one leg playing...

Surely a clown can recognize sarcastic wit when he sees it, or can he?

This is going to generate some fun. Lifer and Weapon X I'm sure will weigh in heavily.

I hope you're being sarcastic with this comment. Please tell me you knew...you're just pulling my chain, right?

HAHAHA i just found this thread....you know me too well. This guy is so f'ing delusional. I like it...this looks eerily similar to an initial T.O. bipolar breakdown. If the Eagles win on Monday, look out!

"Donovan is a hypocrite"
"Donovan is a great QB"
"I don't hate Donovan, I love Donovan"
"Donovan resents me"

Get yo painkillaz ready!

T.O. never got over being kicked off the Eagles...Period! HE is always the one drudging up the past because he can't let it go. You need to read between the lines on some of the things he says and has said in the past (and not too deep because he basically says it).
--He talks about Andy wishing he was still there (translation: T.O. wishes he was still playing for him and w/ McNabb)
--He says Andy is definitely one of the best coaches he's ever had (translation: he IS the best coach T.O. ever had)
--He talks about the great things they could have done together (translation: I wish I was still playing with McNabb).
--He talks about the fans' excitement and their chanting of his name (translation: he misses the additional adoration he got from the Philly fans that he perhaps does not get from the Dallas fans--as much)
Now I know I'm going to get a ton of dissent from Dallas fans but please take your "fan blinders" off and look at this whole situation from an objective point of view (as if you knew nothing about either team, just heard/read all the stories, and were on the outside looking in).

When the Eagles went to Dallas the first time, T.O. was hanging out with his Eagles buddies in their hotel rooms for God's sake the night before their game. He clearly felt appreciated and loved by this team. He was totally shocked that the FO would not reward him with a new contract and never believed in a million years (nor did us fans mind you...grrr) they would actually release or trade him.
Oh yeah, and the problem with Donovan and T.O. was that they were too close (no, I won't go there) but they had so much love for each other that it was more than your typical QB-Receiver relationship. They were good friends and too much alike--they were bound to have a falling out. The reason T.O. gets along so well with G. Pyle is because he is one of those people that is SO nice (probably a pushover who lets people walk all over him) that I'm sure he's never disagreed with T.O. in his life. It's difficult to dislike someone when he is always kissing your ****.

September 12, 2008  08:18 AM ET

If it's head games, it's gonna work cause we all know McNabb is like a woman when it comes to sensitvity.

September 12, 2008  08:22 AM ET

Great talent, massive, out of control ego. T.O. may the best WR in the game, but just plain unlikeable.

September 12, 2008  08:22 AM ET

Get Rosenhaus out of your head. McNabb was a large reason the eagles got you out of the "situation" you had created in San Francisco.
