With Mats Sundin out of the picture, the Montreal Canadiens reached for another veteran center yesterday -- Robert Lang. The Canadiens dealt a second-round pick in the 2010 draft (previously acquired from the Leafs) to the salary cap-strained Blackhawks for 37-year-old Lang, a playmaking centre who had 21 goals and 33 assists last season. The Habs also brought back veteran defenceman Patrice Brisebois, an unrestricted free agent, on a one-year deal worth $750,000 US, with a chance to earn another $750,000 in bonuses. "There was no indication we would see Mats Sundin with our team," said GM Bob Gainey, who met with the star on the weekend. He added that the club is no longer interested in Sundin.

At least one team has finally done the right thing and gave up on this indecisive dbag.

September 13, 2008  05:31 PM ET

Now if the other 29 teams would fall in line we could all be happy.

good on the habs for not wasting anymore time, sadly however they wasted too much none the less. i'm curious if they ever attempted to go for Shanny too.

I'm glad the Habs finally gave up on Sundin. I have a feeling this guy's going back to Toronto. As for going after Shanny, after he stiffed them last year (actually skipping his flight to Montreal to meet with Habs' reps from what I have heard), Gainey probably wouldn't give him the time of day.

Ha. They deleted my comment (number 2) and send me an e-mail about it's offensiveness. Glad somebody save it (in comment 6) for posterity. Thanks Float.

Nice, YODA, nice. We all gave up on Sundin months ago, but for some reason FN won't.
