The Dodgers put Andruw Jones on the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for Takashi Saito on Saturday, marking the end of Jones' miserable first season in Los Angeles. Saito was activated from the 60-day disabled list. In a season that the former major league home run champion has called the most challenging of his 13-year career, Jones hit .158 with three home runs and 14 runs batted in in 75 games. Asked if he regretted signing Jones to a two-year, $36.2-million contract, General Manager Ned Colletti replied, "I'll let you know in a year." Jones, who went on the disabled list for the third time, will spend the remainder of the season rehabilitating his surgically repaired right knee, which is sore again, and plans to play winter ball in the Dominican Republic. Asked if Jones could be the player he used to be, Colletti replied, "A lot of it's going to depend on what he wants to do. It's all up to him. It's not up to anybody else but him. It's never been up to anybody else but him." So did Colletti think Jones didn't prepare himself properly for this season? "I think we've all seen what we've seen," he said. Jones reported to spring training weighing more than 240 pounds.

Man, this thread will be like shooting fish in a barrel. $18 mil for three home runs and 14 runs batted in in 75 games. Ya think?

That Colletti's a real quote machine.

What a suprise. The Dodgers got a raw deal in this one. Good for the Braves knowing he's done.

Correct Sir!!

they're upset b/c little Andruw isn't playing up to his "potential" (note quotes)? Imagine that! I thought the Braves were nuts to let him walk...shows how much I know. His head was so in the clouds of free agency and visions of millions of dollars were dancing their collective way thru his mind that he was a frickin' unproductive robot last season. He didn't care about the team; only about his stats (abysmal) and his impending free agency. The Dodgers have come up 0-for-2 in recycling Braves--Furcal hasn't exactly lit things up, either. Atlanta's much better off without them and the LA Smog now has its hands full of over-priced, over-rated, over-hyped "free" agent ego.

Indeed, a timely parting of ways. With the Braves re-tooling (and no, I don't mean they're hiring Roy) in the offseason, Jones would have been a sore spot in their new configuration. They made a great move getting rid of him.

How could the Dodgers not know what they were getting. He was batting .221 at the end of last year. He also doesn't care enough to work on getting better. Just dump this guy in the ocean and move on. Find some good trade in the off season. Jones' career is over.

September 14, 2008  02:45 PM ET

They've been unhappy with him almost from the minute he signed his contract

September 14, 2008  07:23 PM ET

Andruw Jones sucks. He owes the fans of Los Angeles and the game of baseball an apology. His effort and attitude are an embarrassment to the game, the franchise, it's fans and himself and his family. Disgusting.

I second that!!!!

Dodgers unhappy with Andruw.

No s***.

Scott Boras had Andruw seeing millions. Boras is the worst thing for baseball. He does not care about anything but himself and his millions. He doesn't care if a player wants to stay somewhere, he'll still talk him into going to free agency. I do think Andruw was extremely distracted in 2007 by free agency. The Braves had offered him good money, but Boras made him reject it. AJ could not concentrate all year and he had his worst season. Then he signs with the Dodgers on the West Coast despite still living in Atlanta and is just horrible all year. I'm not saying he would be hitting 50 HRs if he was in Atlanta. However, I think if he had negotiated his own contract instead of listening to the idiot Boras, he would have been happy in Atlanta and hitting his usual .265-.275 and 35 HRs.

Just imagine have Andruw Jones , Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera all on the same Team and you were the Manager !!! Could be worse ..... but Melky kicks gum better than anyone I ever seen.... Jones is so fat he can't see his foot and Cano ...well Cano is thinking about something else ....

September 16, 2008  05:01 PM ET

He might be like the worst baseball ever right now.
