Beltre could return to Dodgers

If the Dodgers keep Blake DeWitt at second, who plays third base next season? Adrian Beltre still keeps a home in Pasadena. He's 29, with one year left on his contract with the Seattle Mariners, at $12 million. He had a career year with the Dodgers, in 2004, when he hit .334 with 48 home runs. He was hitting .270 with 25 homers through Friday, despite playing all season with a torn ligament in his left thumb. He has three consecutive 25-homer seasons, a feat last accomplished for the Dodgers by Gary Sheffield, and Beltre remains a premier defender. He's the Mariners' best trade chip, so the Dodgers wouldn't get him for free, and the Dodgers have weakened the depth of their farm system by trading six prospects for Blake, Manny Ramirez and Greg Maddux. Beltre wouldn't mind staying in Seattle, but the Mariners need to hire a general manager and get on with rebuilding. Assuming they do, Beltre would love to come back to the Dodgers.

beltre=juicing in 2004=not juicing anymore=no good

I doubt Casey Blake will re-sign with the Dodgers. They will need 3rd baseman. If they move Dewitt to 2nd to replace Kent then Beltre (whether he juiced or not) would be better then any other option. Trying to find someone who didn't juice would be hard.

Buyer beware on Adrien Beltre

I'm not coming down on him for juicing, im just saying look at his numbers. Other than 2004, he never hit above .290 and had more than 26 home runs. his ridiculous 2004 numbers were from juicing, and he obviously isn't anymore so stay away...

2004 was a contract year

so is next year

monster year for Beltre next year

Possible...unlikely, but possible...maybe they can get Seattle to take Pierre's contract?

Well the Mariners have made some awesome decisions in the last few seasons. The contracts of Richie Sexson, Kenji Johjima, Jose Vidro, this could keep going for a while. The M's finally fired Bill Bavasi, the architect of the current mess we call the Mariners, because he overspent on a lot of players who didn't produce..... at all. So I have to hope and pray the Mariners have enough sense not to continue doing things like this

Manny or Beltre ??? Go with the sure thing -Beltre !!!

September 15, 2008  09:52 PM ET

Unless Seattle re-signs Big Bald Bill Bavasi to replace himself at GM the Dodgers wouldn't give up what Seattle would demand for a Beltre trade. This rumor may make for good reading, but its not no basis in reality. (The Dodgers would like to trade a six-pack for Jeter and ARod too.)

I hate it when people talk without having any facts, Beltre could've juiced, but How do you know that for sure??? Because he had his best season that year?
Anyway, the Dodgers need to try and keep Manny, and if Blake leaves, then they need another good hitter if not they're gonna have the same problems as always.

first thing the dodgers need to do is resign manny and do everything in their power to keep him happy just look at what he's done for the team. then worry about other roster moves i don't see why they wouldn't try to resign blake he's probably gonna put up the same #'s as beltre would. then trade matt kemp for a starter. he's good but strikes out to much looks like andre the giant is actually more productive then kemp. a long shot i would like to see happen is the biggio move with martin put him at 2nd keep blake at third frees up alot more money and then makes it possible for a run at manny and c.c. both maybe or like a i said earlier package kemp as part of a trade for a quality starter cause who knows if penny or lowe are gonna stay. and last but not least just cut your loss with jones and schimdt at least you free up 2 roster spots for some up and comers.

with all the unwanted baggage coming off the checkbook this year loiza 7 mill per year,penny 9mill,kent 9mill ,nomar 8.5..... the dodgers priority number should be to resign manny and furcal . I would say lowe and blake as well but from what i have read they both prefer to play on the east coast. as far as beltre he would be a great addition to the team ,we should of never let him go, instead of resigning him we let him walk and gave the same money to drew who opted out of his contract and ditched the dodgers for even more money.
