Isringhausen to pitch in '09
On the brink of free agency and with a freshly repaired right elbow, Cardinals closer Jason Isringhausen is so tantalizingly close to his 300th save that he is plotting a return for next season. "I'm sure I'm going to play," Isringhausen said Saturday from his St. Louis-area home. "I'm going to go through the rehab so that I can make that decision, but right now I plan on playing. We'll see how it goes from here." He is not certain if the Cardinals will be interested. The Cardinals are test-driving rookie Chris Perez in the closer role this month, and they have not ruled out looking to fill their ninth-inning vacancy from outside the roster this winter.

It's time to turn the page on Jason in STL. I wish Izzy the best and I hope he lands somewhere and is successful, but it's time to move on from St Louis.

I'm thrilled that Izzy is going to pitch next year... as long as it's for the Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Astros or Pirates.

If the cardinals continue to tell perez to pitch to contact he will not be their closer. When he first cme up to the big clup he was clocked around 97 to 99 miles per hour, now he is throwing around 85 to 88.
